Controls on authigenic carbonate precipitation at cold seeps along the convergent margin off Costa Rica [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Five sediment cores from cold seeps at the forearc off Costa Rica were used to explore the relationship between fluid advection, dissolved Ca concentrations in upward migrating fluids, and authigenic CaCO3 precipitation.

The Fossil higher plants from the Canal Zone [PDF]

open access: yes, 1918
Fossil flora described in the present report is too limited for purposes of exact correlation, which may be expected to be settled by the marine faunas present at most horizons in the Isthmian region.

Ecology and Reproduction of Bunodeopsis in Tropical Northwestern Atlantic Seagrass Ecosystems

open access: yesMarine Ecology, Volume 47, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
ABSTRACT The seagrass ecosystems of the Tropical Northwestern Atlantic (TNA) host three described species of sea anemones in the genus Bunodeopsis Andres, 1881 (Enthemonae: Metridioidea: Acuticulata): B. antilliensis, B. globulifera, and B. pelagica.

The demography of hurricane effects on two coral populations differing in dynamics

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 10, Issue 9, September 2019., 2019
Abstract On most tropical coral reefs, decades of disturbances have ratcheted down coral cover to create low abundance communities. In such a state, the reefs of St. John, US Virgin Islands, were hit by two Category 5 hurricanes in September 2017, yet the effects on two sites dominated by Orbicella annularis were minor in terms of coral cover.

Research Activities at U.S. Government Agencies in Subsurface Reactive Transport Modeling

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal, Volume 6, Issue 4, Page 805-822, November 2007., 2007
The fate of contaminants in the environment is controlled by both chemical reactions and transport phenomena in the subsurface. Our ability to understand the significance of these processes over time requires an accurate conceptual model that incorporates the various mechanisms of coupled chemical and physical processes.

A 928 sq m (10000 sq ft) solar array [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
As the power requirements for space vehicles increases, the area of solar arrays that convert solar energy to usable electrical power increases. The requirements for a 928 sq m (10,000 sq ft) array, its design, and a full-scale demonstration of one ...

Unusual Drainages of the Americas

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 61, Issue 2, February 2025.
Abstract While most rivers and lakes follow predictable principles of hydrology and geology, a few seem to defy the rules. Some rivers diverge rather than converge; some rivers flow in two directions; some lakes have not one but two outlets; some watersheds have ambiguous boundaries.

Petrographic analysis of Usulután and Rosales Zone Engraved ceramics from two Tempisque period (300 B.C. - 500 A.D.) sites on Culebra Bay, Costa Rica
