Genome‐wide identification of olfactory receptor and odorant‐binding protein gene families and their roles in Heliothine chemosensory evolution

open access: yesInsect Molecular Biology, EarlyView.
Genome‐wide systematic annotation identified 81 odorant receptors (ORs) and 49 odorant‐binding proteins (OBPs) in the tobacco budworm, Chloridea virescens. Phylogenetic analyses revealed chemosensory gene diversification in Heliothinae and extensive lineage‐specific duplications in C.

Impact of bauxite mining on mosquito communities (Diptera: Culicidae) and pathogen transmission risks in the eastern Amazon

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Bauxite mining in the Amazon alters mosquito communities, favouring anthropophilic and generalist vectors while reducing species diversity and the variety of blood meal sources. Molecular analyses identified humans, tapirs and deer as the primary blood meal sources.

Effects of Asaia spp. on the development, size and associated microbiomes of two mosquito species of medical importance

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Addition of Asaia species to the rearing water of mosquito larvae can affect the structure of the larval microbiome, although these bacteria do not persist to the pupal stage. Asaia inoculation can increase the adult size of males of two mosquito species. The impact of Asaia inoculation on development rate and female size depended on bacterial and host

Habitat-Specific Host Selection Patterns of Culex quinquefasciatus and Culex nigripalpus in Florida

open access: yesJournal of the American Mosquito Control Association, 2022
ABSTRACT Blood-engorged Culex quinquefasciatus and Cx. nigripalpus were collected from 140 locations throughout Sarasota County, FL, from 2017 to 2020 to determine local, habitat-specific, and seasonal variations in the host usage patterns of these 2 important arbovirus vectors. Mosquitoes were collected using light traps, gravid traps, and via

Commercial permethrin elicits chemoreceptive responses on different Anopheles gambiae sensory appendages

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 9, Page 8609-8617, September 2026.
Anopheles gambiae mosquitoes exhibit takeoff responses when presented to commercial permethrin headspace. This product elicits electrophysiological activity in the antennae and tarsi. However, only the chemical information acquired from the tarsi plays a major role in the observed behavioral response.
