Online Occlusion Culling

2005
Modern computer graphics systems are able to render sophisticated 3D scenes consisting of millions of polygons. For most camera positions only a small collection of these polygons is visible. We address the problem of occlusion culling, i.e., determine hidden primitives.

The ethics of culling badgers

Veterinary Record, 2020
I write in response to the Debate article by Alick Simmons on the ethics of badger culling ( VR , 21 March 2020, vol 186, pp 357-358). He lists questions on ethical wildlife control compiled by Dubois and others,1 who accept that culling can ‘be justified by evidence that significant harms are being caused to people, property, livelihoods, ecosystems ...

Triple depth culling

ACM SIGGRAPH 2011 Talks, 2011
Virtual worlds feature increasing geometric and shading complexities, resulting in a constant need for effective solutions to avoid rendering objects invisible for the viewer. This observation is particularly true in the context of real-time rendering of highly occluded environments such as urban areas, landscapes or indoor scenes.

Badger culling and the BVA

Veterinary Record, 2017
The BVA continues to lend its support to the killing of badgers as part of the government’s bovine TB control strategy in England, in spite of a lack of evidence for any beneficial effect following four years of badger controls in the original ‘pilot zones’, and the fact that serious concerns expressed by the BVA in relation to the policy remain ...

A Shaft Culling Tool

Journal of Graphics Tools, 2000
Abstract Shaft culling is a means to accelerate the testing of visibility between two objects. This paper briefly describes an algorithm for shaft culling and various implementation options. The code and test harness for the algorithm is available online.

A 2.5D culling for Forward+

SIGGRAPH Asia 2012 Technical Briefs, 2012
In recent years, deferred rendering, dating back to [Saito and Takahashi 1990], has gained in popularity for rendering in real time, especially in games. A deferred-rendering pipeline is good at dealing with many lights. However, it is not suited for handling arbitrary materials because it splits lighting and shading calculations.
