The Role of Standing Variation in the Evolution of Weedines Traits in South Asian Weedy Rice (Oryza spp.)

open access: yesG3: Genes, Genomes, Genetics, 2018
Weedy rice (Oryza spp.) is a problematic weed of cultivated rice (O. sativa) around the world. Recent studies have established multiple independent evolutionary origins of weedy rice, raising questions about the traits and genes that are essential for ...

Fungi associated with foliar diseases of wild and cultivated rice (Oryza spp.) in northern Queensland

open access: yes, 2016
During surveys of wild and cultivated rice in northern Queensland in 2014 and 2015, 92 fungal isolates were obtained from plants that were afflicted by foliar diseases, including the rice blast pathogen, Pyricularia oryzae, and the brown spot pathogen ...

Hijacking the Host Clock: A Nematode Effector Antagonizes Soybean Circadian Defense and Translation Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Soybean employs its circadian clock, governed by GmCCA1, to rhythmically defend against soybean cyst nematodes. The pathogen retaliates by secreting the effector Hg4E02, which hijacks the clock to suppress defense and co‐opt the host's translation machinery for nutrient acquisition.

Cross-species bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) library screening via overgo-based hybridization and BAC-contig mapping of a yield enhancement quantitative trait locus (QTL) yld1.1 in the Malaysian wild rice Oryza rufipogon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The construction of BAC-contig physical maps is an important step towards a partial or ultimate genome sequence analysis. Here, we describe our initial efforts to apply an overgo approach to screen a BAC library of the Malaysian wild rice species, Oryza ...

3D Chromatin Architecture Provides Insights Into Leaf Trait Variation Among Pear Species

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Three‐dimensional (3D) chromatin architecture plays a fundamental role in eukaryotic gene regulations, its functional significance in perennial fruit trees remains poorly characterized despite extensive applications in crop genomics. Here, we developed high‐resolution (∼5 kb) Hi‐C maps of Pyrus and compared 3D genomic architecture of three ...

DNA fingerprinting of cultivated rice with rice retrotransposon probes

open access: yesGenes & Genetic Systems, 1993
Cloned sequences of three retrotransposons of rice, Tos1-1, Tos2-1 and Tos3-1, were used as molecular genetic markers to distinguish the cultivars of Asian and African rice, Oryza sativa and Oryza glaberrima. DNAs of six cultivars each of Indica and Japonica types of O.

eQTL Meta‐Analysis Reveals Conserved and Population‐Specific Regulatory Variation Underlying Nutritional Trait Evolution and Domestication in Tomato

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A comprehensive meta‐analysis of expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs) across five diverse tomato populations reveals a high‐resolution atlas of transcriptional regulation and uncovers conserved and population‐specific regulatory architectures underlying fruit nutritional quality traits, including flavonoids, sugars, organic acids, carotenoids ...
