Causes of the recent decline of a Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni) population under an enhanced conservation scenario

open access: yesIbis, Volume 165, Issue 2, Page 388-402, April 2023., 2023
Lesser Kestrel Falco naumanni (Fleischer, 1818) populations have been one of the best monitored bird populations in Spain over the last 70 years. These populations suffered a sharp decline between the 1950s and 1990s. Since then, periodic censuses showed a population increase that lasted until the 2010s.

Tropical and subtropical Asia's valued tree species under threat

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 36, Issue 3, June 2022., 2022
Abstract Tree diversity in Asia's tropical and subtropical forests is central to nature‐based solutions. Species vulnerability to multiple threats, which affect provision of ecosystem services, is poorly understood. We conducted a region‐wide, spatially explicit assessment of the vulnerability of 63 socioeconomically important tree species to ...

Evolution of fruit and seed traits during almond naturalization

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 110, Issue 3, Page 686-699, March 2022., 2022
Almond naturalization is consistent with strong directional selection on fruits and seeds, leading to smaller and more toxic seeds encased in harder endocarps. Accordingly, we propose that feralization of this crop is, at least to some degree, driven by adaptive evolution of dispersal and recruitment traits.

Conservation planning on China's borders with Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 35, Issue 6, Page 1797-1808, December 2021., 2021
Abstract Transboundary conservation is playing an increasingly important role in maintaining ecosystem integrity and halting biodiversity loss caused by anthropogenic activities. However, lack of information on species distributions in transboundary regions and understanding of the threats in these areas impairs conservation.

Participatory mapping reveals socioeconomic drivers of forest fires in protected areas of the post‐conflict Colombian Amazon

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 3, Issue 4, Page 811-826, August 2021., 2021
Abstract Wildfires have increased in protected areas (PAs) of the Colombian Amazon following the 2016 peace agreement between the Government and the Revolutionary Armed Forced of Colombia (FARC—Spanish acronym). Recent study efforts to understand this issue suffer from data scarcity and limited consultation of local stakeholder perspectives on factors ...

A multispecies assessment of wildlife impacts on local community livelihoods

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 35, Issue 1, Page 297-306, February 2021., 2021
Abstract Conflicts between the interests of agriculture and wildlife conservation are a major threat to biodiversity and human well‐being globally. Addressing such conflicts requires a thorough understanding of the impacts associated with living alongside protected wildlife.
