Background – Mycobacterium cell wall fraction (MCWF) is derived from nonpathogenic Mycobacterium phlei and is used as an immunomodulatory compound in clinical practice, yet its mode‐of‐action requires further research. Objective – To evaluate the host response to MCWF in canine peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) by using enzyme‐linked ...

New variants expand the neurological phenotype of COQ7 deficiency
Abstract The protein encoded by COQ7 is required for CoQ10 synthesis in humans, hydroxylating 3‐demethoxyubiquinol (DMQ10) in the second to last steps of the pathway. COQ7 mutations lead to a primary CoQ10 deficiency syndrome associated with a pleiotropic neurological disorder.

Abstract Protein folding energetics can be determined experimentally on a case‐by‐case basis but it is not understood in sufficient detail to provide deep control in protein design. The fundamentals of protein stability have been outlined by calorimetry, protein engineering, and biophysical modeling, but these approaches still face great difficulty in ...

Incidence and genetic diversity of cucurbit viruses in the Spanish Mediterranean area
WMV, CABYV and CMV were the main viruses infecting cucurbits fields in the Spanish Mediterranean area. Phylogenetic analysis revealed frequent recombination/reassortment events in WMV and CMV isolates. Abstract Viral infections on cucurbit fields can cause major economic losses.

UV-triggered p21 degradation facilitates damaged-DNA replication and preserves genomic stability [PDF]
Although many genotoxic treatments upregulate the cyclin kinase inhibitor p21, agents such as UV irradiation trigger p21 degradation. This suggests that p21 blocks a process relevant for the cellular response to UV.
