Temporally Delayed Deployment of Photo‐Responsive Liquid Crystal Polymer Networks Toward Neural Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Deployable medical devices typically need external stimuli to trigger deployment. However, external stimuli are difficult to supply within tissues. Here, we describe a strategy to deploy small‐scale structures into soft tissues after insertion without the need for any stimulus. We demonstrate deployment within a tissue phantom.

Human Possibilities: The Interaction of Biology and Culture

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Journal of Partnership Studies, 2015
This article briefly describes the two main strands of a new unified theory about human nature and human possibilities: cultural transformation theory and bio-culturalism.

'Worldly' pedagogies: preparing students to work and live in a complex and uncertain world [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, I discuss the findings of a small-scale study in which I examined (with a co-researcher) a programme where Palestinian and Israeli students were studying together in the UK for a period of three years.

Flexible and High‐Performance Perovskite‐Polymer Composites for Dual X‐Ray and Proton Direct Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A polymer–perovskite composite obtained by mechanochemical synthesis enables thick, tunable active layers for efficient absorption of highly penetrating ionizing radiation. Vertical‐electrode detectors achieve low X‐ray detection limits and high sensitivity direct 5 MeV proton sensing.

Translation, Identity, Society: The European Case of Cultural Multiplicity

open access: yesCritical Hermeneutics, 2019
The article discusses the philosophy of the translation of Domenico Jervolino applying it to the case of the European Union. The models of multi-culturalism and interculture are implemented within the EU.

Information Transmission Strategies for Self‐Organized Robotic Aggregation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how information transmission influences the neighbor‐based self‐organized aggregation of swarm robots. We focus specifically on local interactions regarding information transfer and categorize previous studies based on the functions of the information exchanged.

Liberal Culturalism and the National Minority/Immigrant Dichotomy

open access: yesLes Ateliers de l’Ethique, 2015
Is the discrepancy between the cultural and linguistic rights of immigrants on the one hand and national groups on the other justified, with the latter group typically enjoying a fuller set of such rights than the former category?

Auditory–Tactile Congruence for Synthesis of Adaptive Pain Expressions in RoboPatients

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
In this work, we explore auditory–tactile congruence for synthesizing adaptive vocal pain expressions in robopatients. Using a robopatient platform that integrates vocal pain sounds with palpation forces, we conducted 7680 trials across 20 participants.

Multi‐cultural values and borders

open access: yesCreativity Studies, 2009
The presumption of this paper is the view of multi‐culturalism as a concept grounded on an assumption, rather than data, and legitimized by proclamation, rather than legislation.

High Humidity Exacerbates Psoriasiform Skin Disease Relapse by Increasing Tissue‐Resident Memory T Cells via Altering Skin Microbiota

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We demonstrated that high humidity worsened psoriasis relapse in murine psoriasiform skin inflammation by increasing skin‐resident memory CD8+ cells via upregulating IL‐15Rα on keratinocytes. The increases in IL‐15Rα and memory CD8+ cells were attributed to S. nepalensis and its metabolite ADMA in skin exposed to high humidity.
