Detection of multiplicative noise in stationary random processes using second- and higher order statistics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
This paper addresses the problem of detecting the presence of colored multiplicative noise, when the information process can be modeled as a parametric ARMA process.

Modelling of continuous low‐temperature emulsion co‐polymerization in 3D‐printed reactor

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
A kinetic model for the emulsion copolymerization of butyl acrylate/styrene at low temperatures is proposed and validated against experiments with a redox initiator system. The model was successfully transferred to a 3D‐printed tubular reactor and conversions of more than 80% and small particles sizes below 40 nm were observed.

Non‐negative Gaussian estimation of variance components in random effects models

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Statistics, EarlyView.
Abstract When used to estimate variance components (VCs), confidence intervals (CIs) can be truncated at zero, have a point estimate not in the quoted CI, be empty with positive probability, or be all‐inclusive. This is because they have conflicting dual roles, since they are considered to cover the parameter with a specified probability while also ...

Hybrid Quatsome‐Encapsulated Silver Nanoparticles as Stable Plasmonic Substrates for Surface‐Enhanced Raman Scattering

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
In this work, silver nanoparticles encapsulated within quatsome membranes have shown to preserve their plasmonic properties for at least 165 days without aggregation. These hybrid nanostructures enable strong SERS enhancement of pyrene and Prodan by confining the molecules within a few nanometers from the silver surface.

Simulating the year to minute wind spectrum with mesoscale‐coupled large‐eddy simulations

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
We coupled a large‐eddy simulation (resolution 50 m) to a mesoscale model (resolution 2 km), which takes boundary conditions from the ERA5 reanalysis. When using a large enough mesoscale domain (𝒪(1000 km)), the simulation setup can reproduce the observed temporal wind spectrum reasonably at all scales between one year and one minute. Furthermore, such

Cumulant ratios and their scaling functions for Ising systems in strip geometries

open access: yes, 1999
We calculate the fourth-order cumulant ratio (proposed by Binder) for the two-dimensional Ising model in a strip geometry L x oo. The Density Matrix Renormalization Group method enables us to consider typical open boundary conditions up to L=200 ...

Cumulant versus jet-like three-particle correlations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Two-particle jet-like azimuthal correlations have revealed intriguing modifications to the away-side of high pt trigger particles in relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

Thermosensitive Nanostructured Coacervates Developed by Mixing ABA‐ and AB‐Block Copolymers and Their Unique Sustained Release of Nano‐Micelles in a Regulated Manner

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Polyion complex micelles composed of blends of ABA and AB block copolymers can form coacervates with a hexagonally packed cylinder nanostructure after heating. The resulting coacervates can release the micelles under physiological conditions in a zero‐order kinetics, possessing cargo proteins.

Elliptic Flow Analysis at RHIC: Fluctuations vs. Non-Flow Effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The cumulant method is applied to study elliptic flow ($v_2$) in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$AGeV, with the UrQMD model. In this approach, the true event plane is known and both the non-flow effects and event-by-event spatial ($\epsilon$) and $v_2$
