Cumulant Methods in the Theory of Multiphonon Absorption

1975
Recent studies suggest that multiphonon absorption in covalent solids is substantially influenced by contributions due to nonlinear electric moments. We demonstrate that the dielectric response in the latter case may be formulated in terms of a cumulant series involving lattice displacement correlators, which avoids the usual perturbative expansions of

The Cumulant Generating Function Estimation Method

Econometric Theory, 1997
This paper deals with the use of the empirical cumulant generating function to consistently estimate the parameters of a distribution from data that are independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.). The technique is particularly suited to situations where the density function is unknown or unbounded in parameter space.

Cumulative Difference Statics: method and application

Exploration Geophysics, 1989
The Cumulative Difference Statics (CDS) method, applied to routine reflection profiles in areas of rapidly-changing near-surface weathering, provides a robust and accurate estimation of static corrections using the first-break refraction data. The method uses the first-break arrival times of refracted energy between paired shots to track the variation ...

A method of producing labels in a cumulative jet

Combustion, Explosion and Shock Waves, 1983
This article proposes a method of obtaining labels on a cumulative jet by making circular grooves on the inner or outer surfaces of the cumulative cone. It is necessary to follow the motion of labeled particles in pulsed x radiography of cumulative jets. The grooves on the inner surface produce perturbations in the form of breaks.

An improved cumulant-based blind speech separation method

2000 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing. Proceedings (Cat. No.00CH37100), 2002
An improved blind source separation method based on cumulant is proposed and implemented in a dual-channel speech enhancement application. The steepest-descent procedure is used in the adaptation of decoupling filters. Simulation and real-world experiments yield good results, which proved the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Critique of the generalized cumulant expansion method

Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1976
The method of ordered cumulants is presented for the solution of multiplicative stochastic processes. The relationship between this method and the irreducible cluster integral method of Mayer, which is used in the theory of the imperfect gas, is elucidated. The cluster property of ordered cumulants is proved.

ON THE STATISTICAL EXPONENTIATION METHOD IN CUMULANT ANALYSIS OF QUASIDETERMINISTIC SIGNALS

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2008
In this article we derive rough formulas for the probability distribution functions of sampled higher-order spectra of poly-harmonic signals corrupted by Gaussian noise. These formulas provide a basis for analyzing the performance detection algorithms for finite-sample length.

Cumulative methods of sedimentation size analysis

1981
There are two approaches to the determination of the size distribution of a sedimenting suspension. The incremental method involves the determination of the rate of change of density or concentration with time or height or both. In the cumulative method the rate at which the powder is settling out of suspension is measured.
