On the concept of cumulative fatigue damage
International Journal of Fracture, 1988A general notion of the cumulative damage is introduced which accounts for the previous damage history and loading order effect. The dimensionless damage is specified in terms of a damage function containing a controlling damage variable, ψ, and material parameter, p.

Nonlinear Cumulative Fatigue Damage Model
Advanced Materials Research, 2011Cumulative fatigue damage is an important consideration in determining the fatigue life of structures. A cumulative linear damage rule cannot provide a reasonable explanation for cumulative fatigue damage, but a damage curve method based on nonlinear cumulative fatigue damage model can give a reasonable explanation.

Abstract In this paper the problem of cumulative fatigue damage is considered. On the basis of the invariable succession postulate and the invariable damage postulate, a general form for a one-damage-parameter cumulative-damage model is developed. It has been shown that some of the models previously proposed can be obtained as a particular case of ...

Cumulative damage and fatigue life prediction
AIAA Journal, 1988A cumulative damage rule is proposed for fatigue of metals under variable stress-amplitude loading. The rule is nonlinear and takes into account the sequence of stress levels, i.e., high-to-low or low-to-high changes of stress amplitudes. To facilitate probabilistic estimates of safety of structural elements subjected to fatigue loading, a stochastic ...

Cumulative damage in fatigue is a problem which in recent years has become of interest to designers in almost all branches of structural engineering. To the aircraft designer however — especially under present-day conditions of operation — it is of paramount importance.

A cumulative damage theory of fatigue failure
Materials Science and Engineering, 1978Abstract A rational phenomenological theory of fatigue life prediction under arbitrary variation of cycle amplitude is presented. The theory is based on the concept of damage curve families which are defined in terms of residual lifetimes for two stage cyclic loadings, and on an equivalent loading postulate.

Cumulative damage in low-cycle fatigue
Experimental Mechanics, 1978Cyclic-deformation behavior of low-carbon steel and copper under constant-stress amplitude and in a two-step stress change has been studied in the intermediate life range. Under constant-stress amplitude, there is initial softening followed by a hardening process in low-carbon steel.

Abstract This chapter addresses the cumulative effects of fatigue and how to determine its impact on component lifetime and performance. It begins by defining a loading history and its corresponding hysteresis loops that exposes the deficiencies of some of the theories discussed.

On Cumulative Damage in Impulse Fatigue Tests
Journal of Basic Engineering, 1963Experimental results are presented for fatigue failure of mild steel specimens under repeated application of lateral impulses; the cumulative damage effect as a result of stresses arising from free-damped vibration of the specimen in the intervals between the repeated impulses is studied.

Cumulative fatigue damage — theory and models
Statistische Hefte, 1974This paper consists of six sections of original contributions to the theory of cumulative fatigue damage of airframe structures and a section which consists of extensive bibliography of important papers in cumulative fatigue damage. Classical models for predicting the average number of cycles-to-failure, using basically one form or another of the so ...
