Application of a Cumulative Damage Concept to Fatigue

Journal of Basic Engineering, 1961
A general concept of the accumulation of damage is described. This concept is combined with a particular hypothesis for the accumulation of fatigue damage. Initial and failure conditions are established for use with the equation and the solution for constant stress amplitude is discussed.

Microstructural evaluation of cumulative fatigue damage below the fatigue limit

Scripta Materialia, 1996
The objective of this work is to evaluate the microstructural changes induced near and below the fatigue limit in a pressure vessel steel plate, SA508. Dislocation cell to cell misorientation differences, {theta}, which increase with fatigue damage accumulation, are measured by the Selected Area Diffraction (SAD) method. The misorientation difference, {

Cumulative Fatigue Damage With Random Loading

Journal of Basic Engineering, 1962
A general concept of the accumulation of fatigue damage is applied where stress amplitude is a random time function with a specified amplitude distribution. A differential equation relating damage accumulation to the amplitude distribution of stress is derived. This equation is applicable to both continuous and discrete distributions.

Cumulative Damage Concepts in Thermomechanical Fatigue

1993
A recently developed cumulative creep-fatigue damage model is applied to the prediction of thermomechanical and isothermal cumulative creep-fatigue loading histories. The model utilizes damage curve expressions to describe cumulative damage evolution under creep-fatigue conditions, qualitatively grouped according to dominant damage mechanism or mode ...

Cumulative damage analysis based on fatigue damage bounds

International Journal of Fracture, 2004
A cumulative damage analysis is presented based on damage curves derived in Ben-Amoz (2003) as bounds on mean fatigue damage in constant amplitude cycling. A detailed analysis is developed for two-stage high-low (H-L) and low-high (L-H) cycling based on single and two-mode bounds.

Statistical Cumulative Damage Theory for Fatigue Life Prediction

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1983
A statistical cumulative damage theory is developed with the purpose of prediction of mean, standard deviation and probability density of fatigue lifetime of randomly variable specimens subjected to the same deterministic cyclic loading program. The theory requires availability of a deterministic cumulative damage theory for ideal nonvariable specimens,

Use of Cumulative Damage in Designing to Resist Fatigue

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1962
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Procedures are described for analyzing service load spectra, making use of fatigue data. Two examples are given, one on a welded hitch and the other on a bevel gear. Cumulative fatigue damage concepts are used to predict the service life, the optimum stress for the design load, and the load and number of cycles to ...

Energy-based method of fatigue damage cumulation

International Journal of Fatigue, 2019
Abstract The study presents the results of low-cycle fatigue tests on AW-2024 aluminium alloy specimens under constant amplitude and multistage loading conditions. As expected, significant hardening of the material was observed in both cases. The tests confirmed that cyclic properties of AW-2024 alloy under multistage loading conditions can be ...

Cumulative Damage Analysis in Structural Fatigue

1970
The influence of residual stress on fatigue is studied using electron microscopy on fracture surfaces of specimens tested under spectrum loading. The level of residual stress that exists at the point of stress concentration is shown to be one of the parameters affecting striation spacing.
