Detecting extirpation: A localized approach to a global problem

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
The global biodiversity crisis stems from a cascading series of extirpations driving species toward extinction. Addressing this crisis requires methods for early detection of extinction at local scales, where communities can mobilize conservation efforts.

A sample size analysis of a mathematical model of longitudinal tumor volume and progression‐free survival for Bayesian individual dynamic predictions in recurrent high‐grade glioma

open access: yesCPT: Pharmacometrics &Systems Pharmacology, Volume 14, Issue 3, Page 495-509, March 2025.
Abstract Patients with recurrent high‐grade glioma (rHGG) have a poor prognosis with median progression‐free survival (PFS) of <7 months. Responses to treatment are heterogenous, suggesting a clinical need for prognostic models. Bayesian data analysis can exploit individual patient follow‐up imaging studies to adaptively predict the risk of progression.

Impact of Packaging and Recycling Systems on Material Recirculation: A Stage‐Decomposition Model

open access: yesPackaging Technology and Science, EarlyView.
A system‐level view emerges from decomposing recycling into four stages (participation, collection, sorting and process yield), diagnosing constraints and targeting interventions. Cumulative equivalent uses (CEUs) quantify long‐term retention, revealing marginal improvements at high baselines generate disproportionately larger gains than low‐baseline ...

Machine‐learning approaches for characterizing the raindrop size distributions in Western Pacific tropical cyclones

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Long‐term disdrometer observations are utilized to derive Z–R relationships for ‐the Western Pacific tropical cyclones. A hybrid moment‐based approach is employed to determine the interrelationships among pairs of gamma distribution parameters. Enhanced estimates of rainfall rate and slope parameter are obtained using machine‐learning techniques ...
