Characterization of Curaua Fiber

Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals Science and Technology. Section A. Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals, 2000
Abstract This paper describes the chemical, thermal and thermomechanical characterization of curaua fiber. The research of the thermal and thermomechanical properties of natural fibers is of major interest, considering their increasing utilization in several applications, and the large temperature range to which the fibers are submitted.

Characterization of lignocellulosic curaua fibres

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2009
Curaua fibres have specific mechanical properties similar to inorganic fibres and are an important renewable raw material. Milled curaua fibres, submitted to different treatments, were characterized by mechanical and thermal properties, moisture content, water absorption, surface morphology, FTIR spectroscopy, density and X-ray diffraction.

Cellulose nanofibers from curaua fibers

Cellulose, 2010
Curaua nanofibers extracted under different conditions were investigated. The raw fibers were mercerized with NaOH solutions; they were then submitted to acid hydrolysis using three different types of acids (H2SO4, a mixture of H2SO4/HCl and HCl). The fibers were analyzed by cellulose, lignin and hemicellulose contents; viscometry, X-ray diffraction ...

Dynamic mechanical properties of curaua composites

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2012
AbstractIn this study, we aimed to evaluate the characteristics of curaua composites using dynamic mechanical analysis. Curaua composites with distinct fiber volume fractions (11–38%) were studied, and their storage and loss moduli were found to increase with reinforcement content.

Analysis of curaua/glass hybrid interlayer laminates

Journal of Reinforced Plastics and Composites, 2014
This study compares the mechanical properties of curaua, glass and hybrid curaua/glass laminates evaluated experimentally with those obtained theoretically using commercial software for composites. Hybrids laminates were produced varying the fiber layer stacking sequence with the aim of optimizing the combination of vegetable and synthetic fibers ...

Performance of curaua fibers in pullout tests

Journal of Materials Science, 2007
Natural lignocellulosic fibers are successfully replacing synthetic fibers as the reinforcement phase of composite materials in many engineering applications, including automobile parts. In addition to well-known conventional lignocellulosic fibers, others with promising properties, like that obtained from the leaves of the curaua plant (Ananas ...

Characterization of Curaua Fibers by Infrared Spectroscopy

Materials Science Forum, 2014
Natural fibers obtained from plants are being investigated as possible engineering materials with application in polymer composite reinforcement. For instance, the lignocellulosic fibers extracted from the leaves of the curaua plant (Ananas erectifolius) display a reinforcement potential owing to their relatively high strength.

Study of hybrid intralaminate curaua/glass composites

Materials & Design, 2012
In this study, thermal, mechanical and dynamic mechanical analyses of hybrid intralaminate curaua/glass composites were carried out. Distinct curaua/glass fiber content ratio and overall fiber volume fraction (20, 30 and 40 vol.%) were studied. Thermal analysis showed higher thermal stability for the glass reinforcement.
