Fluid and Kinetic Properties of the Near-Sun Heliospheric Current Sheet

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The heliospheric current sheet (HCS) is an important large-scale structure of the heliosphere, and, for the first time, the Parker Solar Probe (PSP) mission enables us to study its properties statistically, close to the Sun.

Fluid therapy in adults having non-cardiac surgery: A narrative review

open access: yesAnnals of Intensive Care
Background: Adequate intraoperative fluid therapy is essential, as both uncorrected fluid loss and excessive fluid administration are associated with increased complications. However, current practice varies widely.

Topographically forced long waves on a sheared coastal current. Part 2. Finite amplitude waves

open access: yes, 1997
This paper analyses the finite-amplitude flow of a constant-vorticity current past coastal topography in the long-wave limit. A forced finite-amplitude long-wave equation is derived to describe the evolution of the vorticity interface.

Computational Fluid Dynamics based Performance Optimisation of Vertical Axis Marine Current Turbines

open access: yes
Rapid decrease in the fossil fuels in the last couple of decades has stirred the researchers to find alternative sources for the production of power. Wind and tidal energies are the two most promising alternatives to the fossil fuels.

Fluid drainage from the edge of a porous reservoir

open access: yes
We report theoretical and experimental studies to describe buoyancy-driven fluid drainage from a porous medium for configurations where the fluid drains from an edge. We first study homogeneous porous systems.

Viscous Drag Force and Heat Transfer from an Oscillating Micro-Wire

open access: yes, 2012
An experimental apparatus is being developed in order to investigate heat and momentum transfer from oscillating surfaces submerged in various fluids. A fine wire is situated in a magnetic field and immersed in a fluid of interest.

A leaky-dielectric fluid pump

open access: yes
This paper theoretically introduces a new architecture for pumping leaky-dielectric fluids. For two such fluids layered in a channel, the mechanism utilises Maxwell stresses on fluid interfaces (referred to as menisci) induced by a periodic array of ...
