Evolutionarity of current sheets
1994The continuous MHD motion of a perfectly conducting medium is impossible in the zero point of a magnetic field, in which the electric field differs from zero. In the vicinity of this point the frozen-in condition breaks down and, in compliance with the statement of Syrovatskii (1971) (see Section 4.3; Chapter 12), the reconnecting current sheet (RCS ...

The Physics of Fluids, 1964
An adiabatic two-fluid model is used to discuss generalized solutions for the structure of a plane bounded current sheet in a plasma. The current sheet is advancing in a region with no magnetic field. Numerical results for time-independent solutions are given for different values of the ratio of the velocity of the sheet to the Alfvén velocity referred

Magnetic reconnection via current sheets
The Physics of Fluids, 1986A general picture of magnetic reconnection in the framework of 2-D incompressible resistive magnetohydrodynamic theory is presented. Numerical studies of (quasi-) steady-state driven reconnection reveal current sheet formation for Mach numbers M=u/vA exceeding the Sweet–Parker reconnection rate MSP=(η/LvA)1/2. Since the thickness δ of the current sheet

Vertical displacements of the current sheet and Hall currents
JETP Letters, 2014Vertical displacements of the peripheral regions of the current sheet with respect to its mean plane have been detected in the case of the sheet formation in the three-dimensional configuration with the X line and longitudinal component of the magnetic field.

The current‐voltage relationship in auroral current sheets
Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1987The current‐voltage relation within narrow auroral current sheets is examined through the use of high‐resolution data from the high‐altitude Dynamics Explorer 1 satellite. The north‐south perpendicular electric field and the east‐west magnetic field are shown for three cases in which there are large amplitude, oppositely directed paired electric fields

Structure of Longitudinal and Transverse Currents in Current Sheets
Plasma Physics Reports, 2018The structure of magnetic fields and currents in current sheets formed in 2D and 3D magnetic configurations with an X line is analyzed using experimental data. It is found that, in addition to the main (longitudinal) current, transverse currents comparable in magnitude with the main current are also generated in current sheets.

Hall currents in a current sheet: Structure and dynamics
Physics of Plasmas, 2008Experimental results are presented from the study of the structure and time evolution of the Hall currents in the current sheets produced in the two-dimensional magnetic fields with the null line of the X type, in plasmas with heavy ions. Three-component magnetic fields generated by plasma currents were measured, and particular emphasis was placed on ...

A balance sheet represents the position at one particular moment. Some aspects can change more quickly and easily than others and the analyst must consider how the varying rates of change can interact with each other. The balance sheet, even more than the profit and loss statement, is a form of shorthand which presents in monetary form assets which in ...
