Estimation of transformer saturation characteristics from inrush current waveforms

2006 IEEE Power Engineering Society General Meeting, 2006
This paper presents a novel method to estimate transformer saturation characteristics that extend to the 'deep' saturation region. The basic idea of the method is to use recorded inrush voltage and current waveforms to estimate the saturation characteristics.

Current-Transformer Saturation Detection With Genetically Optimized Neural Networks

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2005
Application of the genetic algorithm for the optimization of the artificial-neural-network (ANN)-based current-transformer (CT) saturation detector is presented. To determine the most suitable ANN topology for the CT state classifier, the rules of evolutionary improvement of the characteristics of individuals by concurrence and heredity are used.

Current Transformer Burden and Saturation

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1979
A tutorial review of the steady-state and transient behavior of current transformers used with power system relays and meters is presented. ANSI accuracy standards are discussed and consideration is given to the significance of burden and saturation in the application of protective relays.

The Impact of Current-Transformer Saturation on Transformer Differential Protection

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2015
Current-transformer (CT) saturation has a major impact on the operation of differential protection schemes. Transformer differential protection must maintain security during CT saturation for external faults while preserving high sensitivity and speed of operation for lower magnitude internal faults.

Study on Transient Saturation Characteristic of Current Transformer

2020 7th International Forum on Electrical Engineering and Automation (IFEEA), 2020
Current transformer (CT) is an important measuring equipment to transfer the current signal from the primary side of the system to the secondary side. Most relay protection depends on the current signal transferred by CT. However, CT is prone to transient saturation due to the influence of the aperiodic component of the fault current. This paper deeply

Current-Transformer Saturation Detection Using Savitzky-Golay Filter

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2016
A new application of the Savitzky-Golay (SG) filters in current-transformer saturation detection is proposed. The ability of the SG filters to handle noisy signals improves the robustness of the detection process in the presence of noise while requiring only low computational effort.

Current transformer saturation detectors for busbar differential protection

2007 42nd International Universities Power Engineering Conference, 2007
Busbar differential relays may operate incorrectly due to current transformer (CT) saturation. In this paper two different techniques are suggested to detect CT saturation. The first proposed algorithm is based on the fact that the wave shape of the CT secondary current is changed significantly at the instant of the saturation.

New method of detection of current transformer saturation

11th IET International Conference on Developments in Power Systems Protection (DPSP 2012), 2012
A new method for detection occurrences of CT saturation is presented in this paper. The presented algorithm applies only first order derivatives of signals which is possible it has been designed in a new innovative methodology in which phase current signals are considered as coordinates of a 3D vector.

Current Transformer Saturation Detection Bases On Artificial Neural Networks

Journal of Modern Energy Research, 2023
Protection and automation (PA) system is an integral part of electric power systems. The algorithms of the PA system operate based on the use of analysis of the electrical mode parameters - current and voltage - obtained from instrument transformers. As a rule, these transformers operate based on the electromagnetism laws.

Parallel inductor reduces transient saturation of current transformers

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1970
A method of reducing the transient saturation of current transformers by connecting an external parallel inductor is presented. This combination behaves as a current transformer with an air gap and has most of its advantages. The effect of resistance in the inductor is brought out.
