Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Subset Selection with Curtailment Among Treatments with Two Binary Endpoints in Comparison with a Control

open access: yesMathematics
We propose a sequential procedure with a closed and adaptive structure. It selects a subset of size t(>0) from k(≥t) treatments in such a way that any treatment superior to the control is guaranteed to be included. All the experimental treatments and the

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Macroscopic Considerations of Curtailment Behaviour of Wind and Solar Sources for Great Britain’s Green Hydrogen Production

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Great Britain’s substantial growth in wind and solar power has created surplus renewable energy. However, intermittency and variable demand cause demonstrable curtailment.

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

Enhancing Fairness and Efficiency in PV Energy Curtailment: The Role of East–West-Facing Bifacial Installations in Radial Distribution Networks

open access: yesEnergies
Electricity market reforms and decreasing technology costs have propelled residential solar PV growth leading distribution network operators to face operational challenges including reverse power flows and voltage regulation during peak solar generation.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Optimal Network Reconfiguration and Power Curtailment of Renewable Energy Sources to Eliminate Overloads of Power Lines

open access: yesEnergies
The increasing number of renewable energy sources in power systems contributes to overloads of power lines in emergency situations. Lines made with relatively small cross-section cables, which in the past were designed for an operating temperature of 40 °

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Spatial incidence of large-scale power plant curtailment costs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Strongly correlated and spatially concentrated curtailment of power plants strongly affects the electricity market. Such curtailment is observed during heat waves in middle Europe, for example. First, curtailed power plants need to be substituted by more
