Curvature Sensor Based on a Long-Period Grating in a Fiber Ring Resonator Interrogated by an OTDR

open access: yesPhotonic Sensors, 2019
The proposed technique demonstrates a fiber ring resonator interrogated by an optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR), for intensity sensing. By using this methodology, a cavity round trip time of 2.85 μs was obtained.

Exploring lipid diversity and minimalism to define membrane requirements for synthetic cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Designing the lipid membrane of synthetic cells is a complex task, in which its various roles (among them solute transport, membrane protein support, and self‐replication) should all be integrated. In this review, we report the latest top‐down and bottom‐up advances and discuss compatibility and complexity issues of current engineering approaches ...

Curvature change of moving bodies and its application for development of protective elements for protective clothing

open access: yesCommunications in Development and Assembling of Textile Products, 2023
When the human body moves, the body curvatures always change on the corresponding parts of the body. For ideal protective clothing, body curvatures during different movements have to be taken into account, as they influence the protection and the ...

Curves in the Lorentz-Minkowski plane with curvature depending on their position

open access: yesOpen Mathematics, 2020
Motivated by the classical Euler elastic curves, David A. Singer posed in 1999 the problem of determining a plane curve whose curvature is given in terms of its position. We propound the same question in the Lorentz-Minkowski plane, focusing on spacelike

Curvature and mechanics

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematics, 1975
AbstractClassical or Newtonian Mechanics is put in the setting of Riemannian Geometry as a simple mechanical system (M, K, V), where M is a manifold which represents a configuration space, K and V are the kinetic and potential energies respectively of the system.

Ergothioneine supplementation improves pup phenotype and survival in a murine model of spinal muscular atrophy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a genetic disease affecting motor neurons. Individuals with SMA experience mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of an antioxidant and neuroprotective substance, ergothioneine (ERGO), on an SMNΔ7 mouse model of SMA.

Research on High Sensitive D-Shaped FBG Hydrogen Sensors in Power Transformer Oil

open access: yesSensors, 2016
Dissolved hydrogen is a symbol gas decomposed by power transformer oil for electrical faults such as overheat or partial discharges. A novel D-shaped fiber Bragg grating (D-FBG) sensor is herein proposed and was fabricated with magnetron sputtering to ...

Stress Analysis of the Effect of Additional Load on the Butt Weld of Suspended Pipeline With Variable Wall Thickness

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2022
Under the special geological environment of the buried pipe, the ground is lost at the bottom of the pipe, which is created by various kinds of external factors.

On the curvature of biquotients [PDF]

open access: yesMathematische Annalen, 2011
As a means to better understanding manifolds with positive curvature, there has been much recent interest in the study of non-negatively curved manifolds which contain either a point or an open dense set of points at which all 2-planes have positive curvature.

Scalar Curvature and Q-Curvature of Random Metrics [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Geometric Analysis, 2010
We study Gauss curvature for random Riemannian metrics on a compact surface, lying in a fixed conformal class; our questions are motivated by comparison geometry. Next, analogous questions are considered for the scalar curvature in dimension $n>2$, and for the $Q$-curvature of random Riemannian metrics.
