Dynamic crack curving—A photoelastic evaluation

Experimental Mechanics, 1983
A dynamic-crack-curving criterion, which is valid under pure Mode I or combined Modes I and II loadings and which is based on either the maximum circumferential stress or minimum strain-energy-density factor at a reference distance ofr 0 from the crack tip, is verified with dynamic-photoelastic experiments ...

Crack curving in anisotropic elastic solids

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1993
Abstract The stress analysis for slightly curved cracks in an elastic anisotropic homogeneous solid is given by using a perturbation method combined with the approach of Muskhelishvili. For predicting the direction of the crack growth, higher order asymptotic stress fields at the tips of quasi-statically growing cracks under planar loading conditions

Curve cracks lying along a parabolic curve in anisotropic body

Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 1995
A general solution for the stress and displacement of curve cracks distributing along a parabolic curve in an infinite homogeneous anisotropic medium subjected to uniform loading at infinity has been given using the Stroh's formalism and the mapping method.

Resistance Curve Analysis of Surface Cracks

1994
In this work, elastic-plastic fracture mechanics (EPFM) methods are extended to study the behavior of surface cracks. The material used is a tungsten inert gas (TIG) welded 2219-aluminum alloy, welded with 2319 weld wire. Calibration and a crack-growth test were performed. A multiple specimen R-curve technique was used.

Bayesian Modeling For Fatigue Crack Curves

1992
An accurate assessment of the propagation of cracks in materials (“metal fatigue”) is important to the structural design and the development of preventive maintenance programs for many engineering structures, including critical aerospace components. Interest is centered on modeling the lifetime process, N(a), which represents the number of load cycles ...

Crack Growth Resistance Curves (R-Curves)- Literature Review

1973
The development of the concept of crack-growth resistance as a means of characterizing fracture toughness is reviewed. While the first model was proposed in 1954, major developments, experimental determinations, and applications of R-curves date from 1960.

Further Studies on Dynamic Crack Curving

1981
Abstract : The elasto-dynamic stress field surrounding rapidly propagating cracks in thin polycarbonate, double edged crack tension specimens were analyzed by dynamic photoelasticity using a 16-spark gap Cranz-Schardin camera system. Crack curving was observed in two slanted double edged crack specimens and in two offset parallel double edged crack ...

Crack propagation curves on flexure adhesion tests

International Journal of Structural Integrity, 2013
Purpose – Two different methods to obtain crack propagation curves are considered in this work. In an analytical approach, the adhesion between the plates is considered perfect. In such case, the interface stiffness is not taken into account and the classic beam theory is used to study the behavior of the plates during ...

Modelling of Crack Growth Resistance Curves

1983
It has been postulated that cracking in fibre reinforced cement composites occurs when the effective stress intensity factor at the tip of a crack reaches a critical value Ki corresponding to the initiation of fracture in the matrix. This stress intensity factor can be separated into two components K = KR + Kr = Ki where KR is the stress intensity ...

Crack resistance curve of ZrO2/Al2O3 with long natural sharp cracks

1989
Crack resistance curve of two ZrO2/A12O3 with very fine grain size was investigated in 3 point bending. Long natural sharp crack by bridge technique was used as precrack. Crack extension was measured with electric potential method. The specimens were tested in two conditions i.e.
