On the motion of a curved and twisted rod
Acta Mechanica, 1972In this paper, the equations of motion of a curved and twisted rod are derived from the basic principles of dynamics. The set of equations gives the extensional, flexural and torsional motions of the rod. The coupling among these types of motion due to the curvature and tortuosity of the rod is shown explicitly in the case of a helical spring.

MULTIPLE HELICAL PERVERSIONS OF FINITE, INTRISTICALLY CURVED RODS
International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2005We investigate mechanical spatial equilibria of slender elastic rods with intristic curvature. Our work is, to some extent, motivated by papers [Goriely & Tabor, 1998; Goriely & McMillen 2002]. There such rods of infinite length were recently studied to quantify the behavior of botanical filaments. In particular, an adequate explanation for the

A model of a general elastic curved rod
Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, 2002AbstractWe indicate a new approach to the deformation of three‐dimensional curved rods with variable cross‐section. The model consists of a system of nine ordinary differential equations for which we prove existence and uniqueness via the coercivity of the association bilinear form.

Justification of the dynamic model of curved rods
Asymptotic Analysis, 2002In this work the asymptotic behaviour of the solution of the evolution problem of three‐dimensional linearized elastic curved rod‐like bodies with respect to the small thickness ε of the rod is analyzed. It is found that, when ε tends to zero, the solution converges, in an appropriate sense, to a single space‐variable function being an inextensible ...

The Influence of Contoured Distraction Rods on Thoracic Sagittal Curves
Journal of Spinal Disorders, 1989The influence of sagittally contoured rods on thoracic sagittal curves was studied in 19 patients who underwent fusion and instrumentation for right thoracic idiopathic scoliosis. Group I included 13 patients who underwent fusions with contoured rods and no releases. Group II included six patients who had anterior or posterior spinal release procedures

Theories of elastic slender curved rods
Zeitschrift für angewandte Mathematik und Physik ZAMP, 1973The linear and nonlinear theories of elastic slender curved rods are formulated in a systematic manner. Equations of equilibrium for stress resultants and moments are derived. The generalized strains are defined based on the principle of virtual work. Constitutive equations corresponding to small strains are obtained.

Evolution model of curved rods
2000Predmet ovog rada je izvod i opravdanje jednodimenzionalnih modela u teoriji elastičnosti. Promatramo problem gibanja tankog lineariziranog elastičnog zakrivljenog štapa, te pripadnu svojstvenu zadaću. Rad je sastavljen iz tri poglavlja. U prvom poglavlju donosimo osnovne rezultate dobivene za problem ravnoteže lineariziranog elastičnog zakrivljenog ...

We present a combination of the asymptotic, direct, and numerical methods on the example plane problem of finite deformations of a thin curved strip. The study includes both static and dynamic analyses; the inhomogeneity of the strip is taken into account. The method of asymptotic splitting allows for a consistent dimensional reduction of the equations
