Justification of the dynamic model of curved rods
Asymptotic Analysis, 2002In this work the asymptotic behaviour of the solution of the evolution problem of three‐dimensional linearized elastic curved rod‐like bodies with respect to the small thickness ε of the rod is analyzed. It is found that, when ε tends to zero, the solution converges, in an appropriate sense, to a single space‐variable function being an inextensible ...

LINEAR CURVED ROD MODEL: GENERAL CURVE
Mathematical Models and Methods in Applied Sciences, 2001A one-dimensional model of a curved rod is derived from the three-dimensional linearized elasticity. No positivity assumption on the curvature of the central line of the curved rod is made. The model is obtained by taking the limit in the equilibrium equation of the three-dimensional elastic rod when the thickness of the rod goes to zero.

A numerical method for solving the curved rod model
ZAMM Zeitschrift Fur Angewandte Mathematik Und Mechanik, 2006AbstractIn this work a numerical procedure for the solution of the one‐dimensional equilibrium model of linear elastic curved rods is derived. The middle curve of the curved rod is approximated by a piecewise linear curve while applied loads are approximated by a piecewise constant function.

Derivation of the elastic force of springs from the curved rod model
Comptes Rendus Mecanique, 2001In this paper the Hook law for the cylindrical springs is derived from the linearized elasticity. The cylindrical spring is the elastic curved rod with the helicoidal middle curve. The curved rod model is used to obtain the behaviour of the spring subjected to the longitudinal force.

Recent results on mathematical modelling of curved rods are presented. More precisely, elastic behavior of a curved rod-like 3-D body is approximated by elastic behavior of its middle curve. The method of approximation is asymptotic expansion with respect to the small parameter diameter of the cross section of the rod).

Numerical model of the nonlinear behavior of curved rods
Computers & Structures, 1986Summary: A theoretical model for the nonlinear behavior of curved rods is derived. The model is very general and it allows any combination of geometry, structural properties distribution, load distribution, and boundary conditions. A set of nonlinear equilibrium equations and boundary conditions is obtained.

One-dimensional quasistatic model of biodegradable elastic curved rods
Zeitschrift Fur Angewandte Mathematik Und Physik, 2015In this paper, we derive and analyze a one- dimensional model of biodegradable elastic curved rods. The model is given for displacement and degradation as unknown functions and is nonlinear. It is obtained from the three- dimensional equations of the biodegradable elastic rod-like bodies using formal asymptotic expansion techniques with respect to the ...

Simple and Effective Equilibrium Models for Vibration Analysis of Curved Rods
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1996New finite-element models for curved beam vibration analysis are derived from classical comple mentary variational principles of elastodynamics. The use of a spline approximation of the axis line (as previously introduced by the writers in the static case) allows for the a priori satisfaction of the dynamic differential equilibrium equations in a ...

A transfer matrix model of large deformations of curved rods
Computers & Structures, 2009Transfer matrix models have been frequently used to analyze the structural behavior of rods, including curved and pretwisted ones. The advantages of these models include their relative simplicity, numerical efficiency and ease of implementation. Previous investigations did not include nonlinear analyses of curved rods that undergo large deformations ...
