Structure model index does not measure rods and plates in trabecular bone [PDF]
Structure model index (SMI) is widely used to measure rods and plates in trabecular bone. It exploits the change in surface curvature that occurs as a structure varies from spherical (SMI = 4), to cylindrical (SMI = 3) to planar (SMI = 0).

One-dimensional reduction of viscous jets. I. Theory
We build a general formalism to describe thin viscous jets as one-dimensional objects with an internal structure. We present in full generality the steps needed to describe the viscous jets around their central line, and we argue that the Taylor ...

Effects of finite curvature on soliton dynamics in a chain of nonlinear oscillators
We consider a curved chain of nonlinear oscillators and show that the interplay of curvature and nonlinearity leads to a number of qualitative effects.

Low Reynolds Number Settling of Bent Rods in Quiescent Fluid
This study experimentally investigates the settling behavior of bent (V-shaped and curved) and straight rods in a quiescent fluid at low and finite Reynolds numbers ...

Mechanics of large folds in thin interfacial films
A thin film at a liquid interface responds to uniaxial confinement by wrinkling and then by folding; its shape and energy have been computed exactly before self contact. Here, we address the mechanics of large folds, i.e.

A general asymptotic dynamic model for Lipschitzian elastic curved rods [PDF]
We study the asymptotic behaviour of solutions to the linear evolution problem for clamped curved rods with the small thickness ε under minimal regularity assumptions on the geometry. In addition, nonconstant density of the curved rods is considered.

The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

Stability of helical tubes conveying fluid
We study the linear stability of elastic collapsible tubes conveying fluid, when the equilibrium configuration of the tube is helical. A particular case of such tubes, commonly encountered in applications, is represented by quarter- or semi-circular ...

Target shape dependence in a simple model of receptor-mediated endocytosis and phagocytosis [PDF]
Phagocytosis and receptor-mediated endocytosis are vitally important particle uptake mechanisms in many cell types, ranging from single-cell organisms to immune cells.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.
