Foliations by curves with curves as singularities [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales de l'Institut Fourier, 2014
Let ℱ be a holomorphic one-dimensional foliation on ℙ n such that the components of its ...

Visual Perception: To Curve or Not to Curve [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 2018
A popular new illusion shows that the apparent curvature of sinusoidal contours depends on contrast and background luminance. We suggest that the illusion is driven by segmentation mechanisms of human vision, which isolate the contours into smaller segments, some which approximate straight lines, others curves.

Coloring Curves that Cross a Fixed Curve [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete & Computational Geometry, 2018
We prove that for every integer $t\geq 1$, the class of intersection graphs of curves in the plane each of which crosses a fixed curve in at least one and at most $t$ points is $χ$-bounded. This is essentially the strongest $χ$-boundedness result one can get for this kind of graph classes.

Parametrizations of elliptic curves by Shimura curves and by classical modular curves [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1997
Fix an isogeny class 𝒜 of semistable elliptic curves over Q. The elements of 𝒜 have a common conductor N , which is a square-free positive integer. Let D be a divisor of N which is the product of an even number of primes—i.e., the discriminant of an indefinite ...

Motions of Curves in the Projective Plane Inducing the Kaup-Kupershmidt Hierarchy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The equation of a motion of curves in the projective plane is deduced. Local flows are defined in terms of polynomial differential functions. A family of local flows inducing the Kaup-Kupershmidt hierarchy is constructed.

Smarandache Breadth Pseudo Null Curves in Minkowski Space-time [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A regular curve with more than 2 breadths in Minkowski 3-space is called a Smarandache Breadth Curve [8]. In this short paper, we adapt notion of Smarandache breadth curves to Pseudo null curves in Minkowski space-time and study a special case of ...

Fourier restriction to polynomial curves I: a geometric inequality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We prove a Fourier restriction result for general polynomial curves in Rd. Measuring the Fourier restriction with respect to the affine arclength measure of the curve, we obtain a universal estimate for the class of all polynomial curves of bounded ...
