Resilience for restoration: Insights from the Northern Great Plains native seed system

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Native plants are essential to ecological restoration and culturally important to local and Tribal communities, yet native seed systems across the United States (US) struggle to meet restoration demand. In the US Northern Great Plains, land conversion of native ecosystems means restoration potential is high but constrained by an underdeveloped

Stock market crashes modeling: stochastic cusp catastrophe application

open access: yes
We show that the cusp catastrophe model explains the crash of stock exchanges much better than other models. On the data of U.S. stock markets we demonstrate that the crash of 1987 may be better explained by cusp catastrophe theory, which is not true for

Towards more reliable interdisciplinary modelling of global human–environment dynamics driving biodiversity change

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Environmental problems are typically vast, urgent and complex. Confronted with such problems, we are often tempted to act fast by pulling together little bits and pieces from different fields and simply adding these to pre‐existing models and frameworks.

Combined Effects of Thermal Cycling Aging and Reinforcement Content on the Ball‐On‐Disk Wear of Additively Manufactured Polylactic Acid Composites

open access: yesPolymer Composites, EarlyView.
Thermal Aging and Tribological Tests of Additive Manufactured PLA Composites. ABSTRACT This study focuses on the additive manufacturing of pure polylactic acid (PLA) specimens and milled glass fiber (GF)‐filled PLA composites under thermal cycling aging and wear tests. Wear tracks have been analyzed via 3D optical profiling and SEM imaging.

Suitability of slightly saline irrigation for alleviating drought stress in taro and yam in Tonga: Implications for climate‐resilient Pacific cropping systems

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
There is an increasing risk of drought and salinisation of soil and groundwater globally, including in Pacific Island countries such as Tonga. Irrigating crops with slightly saline water, such as that produced by emerging desalination technologies, could help to alleviate droughts.

Can a stochastic cusp catastrophe model explain stock market crashes?

open access: yes
This paper is the first attempt to fit a stochastic cusp catastrophe model to stock market data. We show that the cusp catastrophe model explains the crash of stock exchanges much better than other models. Using the data of U.S.
