Modeling Microscopic Freeway Traffic Using Cusp Catastrophe Theory

IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Magazine, 2014
This paper proposes a framework based on stochastic cusp catastrophe theory to model microscopic freeway traffic flow. The approach considers that each driver-regardless of being aggressive or timid-may shift his/her behavior and behave aggressively or timidly during driving.

Modeling Maher's Attribution Theory of Delusions as a Cusp Catastrophe

Nonlinear Dynamics, Psychology, and Life Sciences, 2000
Maher's (1974, 1988) attribution theory of delusions was reformulated as a cusp catastrophe model and tested using 193 percipients' paranormal beliefs, paranormal experiences, and fear of the paranormal as measured by Kumar et al.'s (1994) Anomalous Experiences Inventory, and their tolerance of ambiguity as measured by McDonald's (1970) AT-20.

Analysis of crowd jam in public buildings based on cusp-catastrophe theory

Building and Environment, 2010
The partial differential equation (PDE) model is established based on the physical movement of the continuous crowd states, and has a strong dependence on the initial conditions. In addition, some characteristics of large crowd like the phenomena of discontinuous jumping in reality are hard to explain by partial differential equations (PDEs).

Construction of tree growth model based cusp catastrophe theory model

open access: closed2017 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2017
We established an experimental region located at Wang Ye Dian forest farm in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, China. Within this region, the catastrophe theory model applied for 6 common species single wood volume measurement and calculation to establish a growth model for trees.

Development of a wheat aphid population dynamics model based on cusp catastrophe theory

open access: closedInternational Journal of Biomathematics, 2020
Aphids are a major global wheat pest that can cause considerable loss of yield. Modeling of aphid population dynamics is an integral part of management strategies to manage or control aphid populations. In this paper, first, a wheat aphid population dynamics model was developed based on a logistic model and the Holling III functional response, which ...

Study on Rock Burst Prediction of Deep Buried Tunnel Based on Cusp Catastrophe Theory

open access: closedGeotechnical and Geological Engineering, 2020
Deep coal mining changes the original rock state, stress concentration occurs in the process of self-stabilizing adjustment of surrounding rock. At this time, rock burst is very easy to occur, which brings great threat to mine safety production. Based on catastrophe theory, the energy catastrophe criterion, displacement mode catastrophe criterion and ...

Research on Characteristics of Traffic Flow Three Parameters Based on Cusp Catastrophe Theory

open access: closedProceedings of the International Conference on Video and Image Processing, 2017
It is found that cusp catastrophe theory has similar characteristics to the traffic flow three parameters, for this reason, it puts forward a hypothesis that the cusp mutation theory is applied to study characteristics of traffic flow three parameters. At first, the data of traffic flow three parameters on the Huanshixi R.D.
