Drought-responsive ZmFDL1/MYB94 regulates cuticle biosynthesis and cuticle-dependent leaf permeability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
In all land plants, the outer surface of aerial parts is covered by the cuticle, a complex lipid layer that constitutes a barrier against damages caused by environmental factors and provides protection against non-stomatal water loss.

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

STUDIES ON ARTHROPOD CUTICLE. II. ELECTRON MICROSCOPE STUDIES OF EXTRACTED CUTICLE,,

open access: yesThe Biological Bulletin, 1948
1. Chitin purifications alter the structure of cuticular membranes of insects more or less extensively.2. Our data agree with the x-ray diffraction studies of Fraenkel and Rudall in showing:(a) The cuticle cannot be viewed as a rigid chitin framework iii the interstices of which other components are deposited.(b) Protein extraction methods have no ...

Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

New insights into the properties of pubescent surfaces: peach fruit as model

open access: yes, 2011
The surface of peach (Prunus persica ‘Calrico’) is covered by a dense indumentum, which may serve various protective purposes. With the aim of relating structure to function, the chemical composition, morphology, and hydrophobicity of the peach skin was ...

Epigenetic heterogeneity and plasticity in therapy‐induced tumor states through single‐cell multi‐omics

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single‐cell multi‐omics reveals epigenetic heterogeneity across therapy‐adaptive tumor states, including quiescent/dormant, drug‐tolerant persister, and EMT‐like phenotypes. By linking regulatory features with state‐associated biomarkers, these approaches inform biomarker‐guided therapeutic strategies for evolving tumors.

Biochemical analysis of Caenorhabditis elegans surface mutants

open access: yes, 1997
A collection of Caenorhabditis elegans mutants that show ectopic surface lectin binding (Srf mutants) was analyzed to determine the biochemical basis for this phenotype. This analysis involved selective removal or labeling of surface components, specific
