Multi-cutter selection and cutter location (CL) path generation for five-axis end-milling (finish cut) of sculptured surfaces

open access: greenThe International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2013
This paper presents an optimization method for planning five-axis end milling (finish cut) of sculptured surfaces with multi-cutters. Compared to single-cutter machining, the application of multi-cutters can produce much shorter cutter location (CL) paths and, hence, reduce the machining time.

Clearance distribution and contact characteristics of misaligned gear couplings considering hob feed path [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
Gear couplings are usually machined using hob and slotting cutter in a predetermined circular path. The tool feed path determines tooth profile. This article designs a new feed path.

Micro Aspheric Convex Lenses Fabricated by Precise Scraping

open access: yesMicromachines, 2022
An easy, fast, inexpensive, and simple method utilizing a microshaper with a very small knife nose is used to fabricate microconvex aspherical lenses. The microshaper is mounted on a computer numerical control (CNC) machine.

Virtual cutter path display for dental milling machine [PDF]

open access: yesRO-MAN 2009 - The 18th IEEE International Symposium on Robot and Human Interactive Communication, 2009
This paper presents the prototype of a mixed reality system using the computer controlled dental milling machine, which is called MRD Mill. First, overview of the core dental milling machine developed in this study is presented, showing its kinematics and mechanisms to achieve the objective of the dental treatment.

Microlens Array Fabrication by Using a Microshaper

open access: yesMicromachines, 2021
A simple, easy, inexpensive, and quick nonsilicon-based micromachining method was developed to manufacture a microlens array. The spherical surface of the microlens was machined using a microshaper mounted on a three-axis vertical computer numerical ...

Construction heuristics for generating tool paths for laser cutters [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Production Research, 2014
This paper deals with generating paths for cutting irregular parts nested onthin or thick metal sheets. The objective is to minimize the total time requiredto cut all parts from the metal sheet explicitly taking the cost of piercing andpre-cutting into account.
