Generating cutter paths for marine propellers without interference and gouging

Journal of Marine Science and Technology, 2008
We generate cutter paths free of interference and gouging for manufacturing model propellers using a five-axis numerical control (NC) machine. Our approach is faster than using a general-purpose computer-aided design (CAD)/computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) system.

Cutting Path Optimization of Pattern Pieces in Garment Automatic Cutter

Advanced Materials Research, 2010
In view of the defect and shortage in cutting path automatic optimization of 2D pattern pieces in current garment automatic cutter, a new optimization method of computer is explored. If there is no cutting path optimization implemented by garment automatic cutter before cutting, some problems will be caused, such as too much unless travel and too long ...

Cutting path generation of linear hotwire cutter for VLM-ST

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2006
Most rapid prototyping (RP) processes adopt a solid CAD model, which will be sliced into thin layers of constant thickness in the building direction. Each cross-sectional layer is successively deposited and, simultaneously, bonded onto the previous layer; eventually, the stacked layers form a physical part of the model.

REAL-TIME CUTTER PATH COMPENSATION FOR HIGH SPEED PLANING

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2006
Abstract This paper presents an experimental implementation of a novel approach for producing high quality machined timber surfaces at advanced production speeds. The focus of the work is on adjusting each cutting tool tip in real-time to compensate for inherent mechanical errors in the rotary machining process.

Deburring of cross-drilled holes with ball-end cutters—modeling the tool path

Production Engineering, 2017
Machining of cross-drilled holes generates burrs on the entrance and exit. Deburring of these intersecting holes is challenging due to the limited accessibility. This paper presents a model that creates a tool path suitable for precision deburring of intersecting holes with a ball-end cutter.

Automatic tool-path generation in 5-axis finish cut with multiple cutters

2009 IEEE International Conference on Virtual Environments, Human-Computer Interfaces and Measurements Systems, 2009
This paper presents a method for optimal multiple cutter selection and tool-path generation in 5-axis sculptured surface finish cut. Compared to machining using a single cutter, the application of multiple cutters can shorten the cutting time significantly.

A composite B-spline method for cutter path generation on free-form surfaces

International Journal of Computer Applications in Technology, 2005
This paper presents a composite B-spline method for cutter path generation on free-form surfaces on a point-by-point basis, with appropriate radial offset and interference checking along the cutter path. It is aimed at developing a more efficient and accurate free-form surface machining method for an open-architecture CNC system with B-spline ...

Study on the Computing Method of Cutter Path for Improving the Accuracy of Machine Tools

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
The geometric error is the important aspect of affecting the process accuracy of NC machine. In order to improve the machining accuracy, the article gives a new method to compute the cutter path by making use of the error model of MAKINO based on multi-body theory.

Cutter Size Effect on Cutting Path of Spiral Bevel and Hypoid Gears

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1997
<div class="htmlview paragraph">As some of today's bus industry is moving toward electrically powered, low-emission buses, very compact drivetrain package, the driveline design which links electrical motor to spiral bevel or hypoid gears can become a significant challenge especially under severe environment and certain design constraints.
