Estimating Cutting Forces in Micromilling by Input Estimation from Closed-loop Data

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2008
Estimation of cutting forces in micromilling from the signals of a spindle with Active Magnetic Bearings (AMB) is treated as an input estimation problem. For the closed-loop AMB system, a minimum mean square error input estimator with an adjustable delay is derived.

Estimating the Cutting Characteristics of Spiral Tap - Tool Edge Temperature and Fluctuation of Cutting Forces

Key Engineering Materials, 2015
A method for estimating the cutting characteristics of spiral tap by fluctuation of cutting forces is proposed. The behavior of torque and thrust in tapping is influenced by the change of cutting state. Therefore in this method the fluctuation of cutting forces is depicted in the torque-thrust plane in which the horizontal axis and the vertical axis ...

Cutting Tool Run out Considered Cutting Force Estimation in Micro Milling Processes

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
This paper presents a method of estimating cutting forces of the tool by taking the tool’s run out into account during micro milling processes. The thickness of uncut chip is modelled based on the trochoidal trajectory synthesized from the rotational motion, the feed motion, and the run out of rotational micro tools.

Cutting Force Estimation by Measuring Spindle Displacement in Milling Process

CIRP Annals, 2005
A cylindrical capacitive displacement sensor (CCDS) was developed and applied for monitoring end milling processes. Dynamic characteristics of a spindle-assembly were measured using the CCDS and a designed magnetic exciter. The technique to extract the spindle displacement component caused only by cutting from the measured signals using the CCDS was ...

A Theoretical Model for Estimating the Peak Cutting Force of Conical Picks

Experimental Mechanics, 2018
The peak cutting force (PCF) estimation plays an important role in the design of cutting tools for mining excavators. In most of the existing theoretical models for cutting force prediction, the PCF is often modeled as the force on the cutting tool at the moment when the rock fragment is formed.

A comparison of experimental estimation methods of the ploughing force in orthogonal cutting

International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 2013
Abstract In micro-cutting, the determination of the ploughing forces is necessary for wear monitoring of the cutting tool. The aim of this research was to confirm that the extrapolation method on zero thickness cannot be used to determine the ploughing forces.

Stress-Strain Analysis and Simulation for Estimation of Cutting Forces on the Skin

International Review of Mechanical Engineering (IREME), 2015
In order to control correctly robot-assisted surgeries and to avoid compromising the patient's vital organs, the forces exerted over the tissues of the human body must be calculated, monitored and adjusted. In a skin incision, the magnitude of the force depends on the incision’s depth and on the biomechanical properties of skin itself. In this paper, a
