Optical Force-Induced Nanowire Cut
The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters, 2022One-dimensional nanometer scale-sized materials, such as nanowires, nanotubes, etc., have gradually become new types of structural components, which can be integrated into micro/nano-opto-electromechanical systems. In this paper, optical forces were applied to cut nanowires precisely, which were broken with arbitrary length ratios.

Cutting Forces Coefficient Calibration
2020 2nd International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Manufacture (AIAM), 2020The cutting forces of flank milling is an important part of the simulation of the milling process, which affects the chatter monitoring, tool life, and surface quality of the workpiece. In this paper, a mechanistic cutting force model is proposed to predict the cutting force of the flat end milling cutter.

Prediction of specific cutting force and cutting force ratio in turning
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 1994Abstract Presented in this paper is a model which enables the prediction of the specific cutting force and the cutting force ratio in metal cutting, based on a predictive machining theory using a shear-zone model of chip formation. An important feature of this model is that the variations of the flow-stress properties of the work material with strain,

Effect of Ploughing Force on Cutting Forces in Micro-cutting with a Rounded-edge Cutting Tool
Materials Today: Proceedings, 2015In micro- and nano-machining operations, the importance of cutting edge radius attracts attention to understand the mechanics of micro-cutting operations. In addition, the cutting edge radius causes higher ploughing forces and the ploughing force has many effects on the mechanics on micro- and nano-machining such as increasing the resultant force and ...

Determination of Cutting Forces in Oblique Cutting
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015This study describes the method of determining cutting force components in oblique turning. The scheme of how the investigations were performed is presented. The characteristic curves of cutting force components vs. thickness of the material removed, tool clearance and tool rake angles are shown.

Dynamic cutting force measuring
International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 2000Piezoelectric dynamometer are generally used for force measuring. Delivered signals are distorted due to their self dynamic behaviour. Their dynamic characteristics are identified under normal machining operation. The proposed method is based on the interrupted cutting of a specially designed workpiece that provides a strong broadband excitation.

Cutting Forces in Orthogonal Cutting of Unidirectional GFRP Composites
Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology, 1996The results of orthogonal cutting tests carried out on unidirectional glass fiber reinforced plastic composites, using HSS tools, are presented and discussed. During the tests, performed on a milling machine at very low cutting speed to avoid thermal effects, the cutting speed was held constant and parallel to the fibre direction.

Vibrating Needle Cutting Force
Volume 2: Processing, 2014Needles are one of most commonly used medical devices, used to deliver drugs, biopsy tissue, draw blood, conduct brachytherapy cancer treatment and many other procedures. Maintaining a low insertion force of the needle is important to the success of these procedures. Utilizing vibratory cutting reduces the insertion force, thus improving the outcome of

Determining cutting force coefficients from instantaneous cutting forces in ball end milling
International Journal of Machining and Machinability of Materials, 2016The precise prediction of cutting forces helps in improving the machining performances. This involves the modelling of cutting force components in tangential, radial and axial directions and determination of respective specific cutting force coefficients. In the present work, an improved method of identification of specific cutting force coefficient is

Intermittent metal cutting at small cutting depths—2. Cutting forces
International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 1988Abstract Cutting forces in intermittent metal cutting at small cutting depths were investigated by single edge experiments. Single cutting strokes were performed in a modified Charpy pendulum tester which offers cutting and thrust force measurement and accurate selection of cutting speed and feed in ranges typical for many intermittent high speed ...
