Effect of Ploughing Force on Cutting Forces in Micro-cutting with a Rounded-edge Cutting Tool

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2015
In micro- and nano-machining operations, the importance of cutting edge radius attracts attention to understand the mechanics of micro-cutting operations. In addition, the cutting edge radius causes higher ploughing forces and the ploughing force has many effects on the mechanics on micro- and nano-machining such as increasing the resultant force and ...

Prediction of specific cutting force and cutting force ratio in turning

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 1994
Abstract Presented in this paper is a model which enables the prediction of the specific cutting force and the cutting force ratio in metal cutting, based on a predictive machining theory using a shear-zone model of chip formation. An important feature of this model is that the variations of the flow-stress properties of the work material with strain,

Virtual cutting with force feedback

Proceedings. IEEE 1998 Virtual Reality Annual International Symposium (Cat. No.98CB36180), 2002
Cutting is an essential operation for forming and designing shapes. We have implemented a virtual cutting work space, in which we can create objects of various shapes through cutting operations. An object in the work space is defined as a closed surface that consists of triangle patches.

Representation of force in cutting operation

Proceedings IEEE Virtual Reality (Cat. No. 99CB36316), 2003
We propose a method of simulating and representing cutting force in real time. To reduce the computation time, we employed a simplified physical model for the simulation. We define the cutting edge as a finite set of discrete points (i.e., discrete edges).

Determination of Cutting Forces in Oblique Cutting

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015
This study describes the method of determining cutting force components in oblique turning. The scheme of how the investigations were performed is presented. The characteristic curves of cutting force components vs. thickness of the material removed, tool clearance and tool rake angles are shown.

Study of Soft Tissue Cutting Forces and Cutting Speeds

2004
A versatile equipment to study the cutting of soft tissue with surgery scalpel was designed and constructed. Experiments were performed with pig liver (ex-vivo) to measure the blade-tissue interaction forces at cutting speeds ranging from 0.1 cm/sec-2.54 cm/sec. The experimentally measured force-displacement curves reveal that the liver cutting process

Influence of the Cutting Parameters on the Cutting Forces of Carbon Steel

Computational Weld Mechanics, Constraint, and Weld Fracture, 2002
Plain carbon steels and alloy steels have a great application in the manufacturing process especially due to their characteristic of high machinability and low cost. The machining of these materials, the study of the cutting forces, and the power required for the cutting process is one of the most important parameters to be evaluated.

Cutting Forces in Orthogonal Cutting of Unidirectional GFRP Composites

Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology, 1996
The results of orthogonal cutting tests carried out on unidirectional glass fiber reinforced plastic composites, using HSS tools, are presented and discussed. During the tests, performed on a milling machine at very low cutting speed to avoid thermal effects, the cutting speed was held constant and parallel to the fibre direction.

Cutting force modelling and physical cutting simulation

1998
There is a direct relationship between the cutting conditions and the economics of the SSM-process. The goal is to cut the part as quickly as possible while maintaining safe cutting conditions and high part quality. The simulation of the physical process must be capable of estimating the cutting forces.
