Microbial mats in dinosaur ichnocoenoses

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Until now, the significance of microbial mats in preservation of dinosaur tracks and in reconstructing the palaeoenvironment in which dinosaurs roamed was rarely studied. Dinosaur tracks are commonly found close to ancient aquatic bodies where moist sediment had once allowed footstep registration.

Thiol post‐translational modifications modulate allosteric regulation of the OpcA–G6PDH complex through conformational gate control

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract In cyanobacteria, the redox‐sensitive protein OpcA acts as a metabolic switch for G6PDH, enabling rapid adjustment of reducing power generation from glycogen catabolism and thereby precisely regulating carbon flux between anabolic and catabolic pathways.

Heterocyst placement strategies to maximize growth of cyanobacterial filaments

open access: yes, 2012
Under conditions of limited fixed-nitrogen, some filamentous cyanobacteria develop a regular pattern of heterocyst cells that fix nitrogen for the remaining vegetative cells.

Interactions between the nitrogen-fixing cyanobacterium Trichodesmium and siderophore-producing cyanobacterium Synechococcus under iron limitation

open access: yesISME Communications
Abstract As diazotrophic cyanobacteria of tremendous biomass, Trichodesmium continuously provide a nitrogen source for carbon-fixing cyanobacteria and drive the generation of primary productivity in marine environments. However, ocean iron deficiencies limit growth and metabolism of Trichodesmium.

Effect of Anabaena sp. PCC7120 on the Tolerance of Rice ( Oryza sativa L. cv Maratelli) Seedlings Against Lindane

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, Volume 37, Issue 7, Page 2873-2885, 30 April 2026.
ABSTRACT Lindane (γ‐hexachlorocyclohexane, γ‐HCH) is a broad‐spectrum pesticide widely used since the 1950s until its inclusion in the Stockholm Convention list of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in 2009, together with other HCH isomers. The high persistence and mismanagement of the toxic wastes generated during its synthesis have led to serious ...

Toward Sustainability: Intensification of Light‐Driven Whole Cell Biocatalysis

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 8, April 2026.
Whole‐cell, light‐driven biotransformations in photoautotrophic microorganisms offer the potential for higher atom economy by directly harnessing reducing equivalents and oxygen generated through natural photosynthesis. Current advances include the development of strains with improved growth rates and reactor designs that mitigate self‐shading ...

Microbially Mediated Intracellular Barite Mineralization: Evidence From an Early Ediacaran Microfossil in the Doushantuo Formation of South China

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 8, 28 April 2026.
Abstract Barite serves as a key proxy for reconstructing paleo‐oceanic productivity and chemistry in modern and ancient marine sediments. Although contemporary barite precipitation involves biological mediation, the mechanisms responsible for ancient barite formation remain unclear.

Thermal Plasticity is Regulated by a Key MicroRNA During Range Expansion of an Invasive Fruit Fly

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 23, 23 April 2026.
Populations at the invasion front of Bactrocera dorsalis adapt through reduced phenotypic and gene expression plasticity, a phenomenon likely to be driven by genetic assimilation. We identify a key miRNA‐mediated regulatory axis, in which miR‐276b post‐transcriptionally represses thw, a conserved chitin‐binding gene critical to the cold‐tolerance ...

Adaptive and Biochemical Responses of Dictyosphaerium sp. AM‐2024a to Environmental Conditions and Microplastic Interactions: Synergy of Biofuel Production With Pollution Mitigation

open access: yesBiotechnology and Applied Biochemistry, Volume 73, Issue 2, Page 768-781, April 2026.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the physiological and biochemical responses of a newly isolated microalgal strain, Dictyosphaerium sp. AM‐2024a, identified through 18S rDNA sequencing, under varying environmental conditions and microplastic (MP) interactions.

Allelopathic effect of Ulva intestinalis L. on the Baltic filamentous cyanobacterium Nostoc sp.

open access: yesAnnales Universitatis Paedagogicae Cracoviensis Studia Naturae, 2018
Allelopathy is a prevalent natural phenomenon in aquatic ecosystem. We reported the effects of the green macroalga Ulva intestinalis L. collected from estuaries of the Baltic Sea (Poland) on the growth and chlorophyll fluorescence of common filamentous ...
