Palynological, tephra, and 14C records from southern Kaitoke, Great Barrier (Aotea) Island, New Zealand, since c. 30,000 cal. yr BP

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Botany, Volume 63, Issue 5, Page 1096-1114, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Here we present results of the last remaining three, unreported pollen and stratigraphic profiles from our previous investigations on Great Barrier Island from southern Kaitoke. The 14C and pollen data extend the island's previous maximum pollen‐vegetation date from c. 7000 cal. yr BP to close to the end of MIS 3 c. 30,000 cal. yr BP.

Response of spores and young gametophytes of Cyathea delgadii Sternb. (Cyatheaceae) and Blechnum brasiliense Desv. (Blechnaceae) to different light levels Resposta de esporos e gametófitos jovens de Cyathea delgadii Sternb. (Cyatheaceae) e Blechnum brasiliense Desv. (Blechnaceae) aos diferentes níveis de luz

open access: yesActa Botânica Brasílica, 2007
Light is a limiting factor for fern stablishment because it controls germination of light sensitive spores. The aim of this work was to study the effect of light levels on spore germination in two ornamental ferns native to the Atlantic forest, under ...

Larvicidal potential of Cyathea species against Culex quinquefasciatus

open access: yesPharmaceutical and Biomedical Research, 2017
Resistance to insecticides has persuaded researchers to find new methods to control Culex quinquefasciatus proliferation. Plants may be a source of alternative agents for mosquito control due to ever-growing insecticide resistance in mosquito vectors and

Habitat Conditions and Neighborhood Interactions Drive the Phylogenetic Structure of Seedling Assemblages in a Tropical Forest Mosaic

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 6, November 2025.
In poor, well‐drained sandy soils, we observed the coexistence of more closely related species, suggesting that shared evolutionary history influences which seedlings survive under these restrictive conditions. Contrary to expectations, flooded areas harbored more distantly related species, likely because pathogens and other natural enemies limit the ...
