Cyclic Codes over a Non-Local Non-Unital Ring

open access: yesMathematics
We study cyclic codes over the ring H of order 4 and characteristic 2 defined by generators and relations as H=⟨a,b∣2a=2b=0,a2=0,b2=b,ab=ba=0⟩. This is the first time that cyclic codes over a non-unitary ring are studied.

On the Existence of Cyclic and Pseudo-Cyclic MDS Codes

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Combinatorics, 1998
A linear code \(C\) of length \(n\) and dimension \(k\) over the Galois field \(\mathbb{F}_q\), denoted as an \([n,k]_q\) code, is called MDS if its minimum distance \(d\) equals \(n-k+1\). \(C\) is called pseudo-cyclic (the names semi-cyclic and constacyclic are also in use) if there exists an \(\alpha\in \mathbb{F}_q \setminus\{0\}\) such that \((c_1,

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

Cyclic, LCD, and Self-Dual Codes over the Non-Frobenius Ring GR(p2,m)[u]/〈u2,pu

open access: yesMathematics
Let p be a prime number and m be a positive integer. In this paper, we investigate cyclic codes of length n over the local non-Frobenius ring R=GR(p2,m)[u], where u2=0 and pu=0.

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

FpRS-Additive Cyclic Codes are Asymptotically Good

open access: yesIEEE Access
In coding theory, the rate and the relative minimum distance are two important invariants to assess a family of codes’ asymptotic characteristics.

Cyclically permutable codes.

open access: yes, 1997
A cyclically permutable code is a set of codewords having the property that no codeword is a cyclic shift of another codeword. We study the problem of constructing cyclically permutable codes of large size and low correlation. Cyclically permutable codes are used in code-division multiple-access systems realized by e.g.
