Analysis Deformation Failure Characteristics and the Energy Evolution of Varying Lithologies under Cyclic Loading

open access: yesGeofluids, 2022
Deep underground engineering often utilizes cyclic loading. To understand the deformation and damage characteristics of rock under cyclic loading conditions, cyclic loading tests of three different specimens with varying lithology were performed.

Experimental Study on Energy Evolution and Storage Performances of Rock Material under Uniaxial Cyclic Compression

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2020
To investigate the energy evolution and storage performances of rock under uniaxial cyclic compression, a series of uniaxial cyclic loading and unloading compression tests were conducted on Green sandstone and Yueyang granite. Two methods for calculating

Hydrogen-Bonded Cyclic Dimers at Large Compression: The Case of 1H-pyrrolo[3,2-h]quinoline and 2-(2′-pyridyl)pyrrole

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
1H-pyrrolo[3,2-h]qinoline (PQ) and 2-(2′-pyridyl)pyrrole (PP) are important systems in the study of proton-transfer reactions. These molecules possess hydrogen bond donor (pyrrole) and acceptor (pyridine) groups, which leads to the formation of cyclic ...

Effect of long-term cyclic compression loading on the structural evolution of trabecular bone

open access: yesMedicine in Novel Technology and Devices, 2021
Dynamic remodeling of bone tissue is mediated by the synergistic effects of osteoblast-driven bone formation and Osteoclast-dominated bone resorption.

Deformation behavior and deformation mechanism evolution of AZ31B magnesium alloy under compression-compression cyclic loading

open access: yesCailiao gongcheng, 2022
In order to investigate the cyclic deformation behavior in radial direction of extruded AZ31B magnesium alloy, the asymmetric compression-compression cyclic deformation test under strain-controlled was carried out at the strain amplitudes of 0.75%, 1.0%,

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Viscoelastic properties of passive skeletal muscle in compression—Cyclic behaviour [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biomechanics, 2009
Skeletal muscle relaxation behaviour in compression has been previously reported, but the anisotropic behaviour at higher loading rates remains poorly understood. In this paper, uniaxial unconfined cyclic compression tests were performed on fresh porcine muscle samples at various fibre orientations to determine muscle viscoelastic behaviour.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
