Cyclic electron flow in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Abstract Cyclic electron flow (CEF), one of the major alternative electron transport pathways to the primary linear electron flow (LEF) in chloroplasts has been discovered in the middle of the last century. It is defined as a return of the reductants from the acceptor side of the Photosystem I (PSI) to the pool of its

Phosphorylation coupled to non‐cyclic electron flow in photosystem I [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1971
Electron flow pathways in islated chloroplasts are associated with one or with both photosystems, and may be of a cyclic or a non-cyclic nature. Photoinduction of such electron flow paths is accompanied by the synthesis of ATP [I] . The localization of the sites of ATP formation along these electron flow pathways is a problem of great interest.

Regulation of Chloroplast ATP Synthase Modulates Photoprotection in the CAM Plant Vanilla planifolia

open access: yesCells, 2022
Generally, regulation of cyclic electron flow (CEF) and chloroplast ATP synthase play key roles in photoprotection for photosystems I and II (PSI and PSII) in C3 and C4 plants, especially when CO2 assimilation is restricted.

Antenna Modification Leads to Enhanced Nitrogenase Activity in a High Light-Tolerant Cyanobacterium

open access: yesmBio, 2021
Biological nitrogen fixation is an energy-intensive process that contributes significantly toward supporting life on this planet. Among nitrogen-fixing organisms, cyanobacteria remain unrivaled in their ability to fuel the energetically expensive ...

Cyclic electron flow in C3 plants

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 2006
This paper summarized our present view on the mechanism of cyclic electron flow in C3 plants. We propose that cyclic and linear pathways are in competition for the reoxidation of the soluble primary PSI acceptor, Ferredoxin (Fd), that freely diffuses in the stromal compartment.

Heat-Induced Photosynthetic Responses of Symbiodiniaceae Revealed by Flash-Induced Fluorescence Relaxation Kinetics

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2022
Symbiodiniaceae live in endosymbiosis with corals. In the last few decades, mass bleaching events have occurred in the coral reefs, causing damage in the ecosystem and the associated species. Global temperature increase is affecting the algae, disturbing

Cyclic electron flow is redox-controlled but independent of state transition. [PDF]

open access: yesNat Commun, 2013
Photosynthesis is the biological process that feeds the biosphere with reduced carbon. The assimilation of CO2 requires the fine tuning of two co-existing functional modes: linear electron flow, which provides NADPH and ATP, and cyclic electron flow, which only sustains ATP synthesis.

Rates and Roles of Cyclic and Alternative Electron Flow in Potato Leaves [PDF]

open access: yesPlant and Cell Physiology, 2007
Measurements of 810 nm transmittance changes in leaves, simultaneously with Chl fluorescence, CO(2) uptake and O(2) evolution, were carried out on potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) leaves with altered expression of plastidic NADP-dependent malate dehydrogenase. Electron transport rates were calculated: J(C) from the CO(2) uptake rate considering ribulose-1,

Evaluation of Light-Dependent Photosynthetic Reactions in Reynoutria japonica Houtt. Leaves Grown at Different Light Conditions

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
The Japanese knotweed (Reynoutria japonica Houtt.) is considered as one of the most aggressive and highly successful invasive plants with a negative impact on invaded habitats.

Partially dissecting the steady-state electron fluxes in Photosystem I in wild-type and pgr5 and ndh mutants of Arabidopsis

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2015
Cyclic electron flux (CEF) around Photosystem I (PS I) is difficult to quantify. We obtained the linear electron flux (LEFO2) through both photosystems and the total electron flux through PS I (ETR1) in Arabidopsis in CO2-enriched air. DeltaFlux = ETR1
