PETO Interacts with Other Effectors of Cyclic Electron Flow in Chlamydomonas [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Plant, 2016
While photosynthetic linear electron flow produces both ATP and NADPH, cyclic electron flow (CEF) around photosystem I (PSI) and cytochrome b6f generates only ATP. CEF is thus essential to balance the supply of ATP and NADPH for carbon fixation; however, it remains unclear how the system tunes the relative levels of linear and cyclic flow.

Cadmium Caused Different Toxicity to Photosystem I and Photosystem II of Freshwater Unicellular Algae Chlorella pyrenoidosa (Chlorophyta)

open access: yesToxics, 2022
Heavy metals such as Cd pose environmental problems and threats to a variety of organisms. The effects of cadmium (Cd) on the growth and activities of photosystem I (PSI) and photosystem II (PSII) of Chlorella pyrenoidosa were studied. The growth rate of

Differential Response of the Photosynthetic Machinery to Fluctuating Light in Mature and Young Leaves of Dendrobium officinale

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
A key component of photosynthetic electron transport chain, photosystem I (PSI), is susceptible to the fluctuating light (FL) in angiosperms. Cyclic electron flow (CEF) around PSI and water-water cycle (WWC) are both used by the epiphytic orchid ...

How Does Cyclic Electron Flow Alleviate Photoinhibition in Arabidopsis?     [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 2008
Abstract Cyclic electron flow (CEF) around photosystem I has a role in avoiding photoinhibition of photosystem II (PSII), which occurs under conditions in which the rate of photodamage to PSII exceeds the rate of its repair. However, the molecular mechanism underlying how CEF contributes to photoprotection is not yet well understood.

High efficient cyclic electron flow and functional supercomplexes in Chlamydomonas cells

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 2022
A very high rate for cyclic electron flow (CEF) around PSI (~180 s-1 or 210 s-1 in minimum medium or in the presence of a carbon source respectively) is measured in the presence of methyl viologen (MV) in intact cells of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii under anaerobic conditions.

Different Strategies for Photosynthetic Regulation under Fluctuating Light in Two Sympatric Paphiopedilum Species

open access: yesCells, 2021
Fluctuating light can cause selective photoinhibition of photosystem I (PSI) in angiosperms. Cyclic electron flow (CEF) around PSI and electron flux from water via the electron transport chain to oxygen (the water-water cycle) play important roles in ...

Electron flow through NDH-1 complexes is the major driver of cyclic electron flow-dependent proton pumping in cyanobacteria [PDF]

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 2020
Abstract Cyclic electron flow (CEF) around Photosystem I is vital to balancing the photosynthetic energy budget of cyanobacteria and other photosynthetic organisms. The coupling of CEF to proton pumping has long been hypothesized to occur, providing proton motive force (PMF) for the synthesis of ATP with no net cost ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...
