Cyclic Fatigue of Protaper Instruments

Journal of Endodontics, 2007
The present work evaluated the influence of the curved segment length of artificial root canals (the arc) and the number of cycles necessary to fracture engine-driven nickel-titanium endodontic instruments. ProTaper F3 25-mm files at 250 rpm were used in two artificial canals. The artificial canals were made of stainless steel with an inner diameter of

Cyclic fatigue of ceramics

Journal of Materials Science, 1991
The fatigue behaviour of alumina, zirconia-toughened alumina (ZTA) and tetragonal zirconia (TZP) have been investigated using three different techniques. Direct push-pull testing has been used to generate both static and cyclic fatigue data. The results clearly show that all the materials studied are susceptible to both static and cyclic fatigue, and ...

CYCLIC FATIGUE OF ZIRCONIA

Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 1996
AbstractTwo partially‐stabilized zirconia materials, Mg‐PSZ and Y‐PSZ, were investigated in static and cyclic fatigue tests. The crack growth rates were determined as a function of the stress intensity factor (static tests) and the stress intensity factor range (cyclic tests).

Cyclic fatigue of ZTC — Micromechanical modelling

Mechanics of Materials, 1993
Abstract Crack bridging is an important mechanism in zirconia toughened ceramics (ZTC). A micromechanical model describing the toughening induced by this mechanism is first briefly recapitulated. The metastable tetragonal zirconia precipitates in the ceramic matrix transform to monoclinic phase under high stresses due to macrocracks in the matrix ...

Cyclic Deformation-Fatigue

2021
Ultrafine grained Al 6061 processed by high-pressure torsion (HPT) at room temperature was tested for the fatigue properties. The HPT processing leads to the formation of a microstructure with an average grain size of 170 nm. The fatigue behavior of the UFG material and the fracture surface is considered in terms of low and high cycle fatigue.

Cyclic Fatigue of Alumina

1992
Mechanical behavior of polycrystalline alumina under cyclic and static tensile loading was studied. Smooth cylindrical specimens of 99.8% alumina were cyclically loaded at both room temperature and 1200°C to produce stress-life curves. A decrease in strength was observed with an increase in temperature.

Cyclic fatigue of polymer nanocomposites

Engineering Failure Analysis, 2009
This paper presents an experimental study on cyclic fatigue of two polymer nanocomposites in two common failure modes: mechanical failure in epoxy nanocomposites and thermal softening in polyamide (PA, nylon) 6 nanocomposites. For epoxy nanocomposites, the effects of hard (silica) and soft (rubber) nano-particles on un-notched samples under constant ...

Cyclic fatigue of composite restorative materials*

Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 1989
SummaryThe purpose of this project was to investigate and evaluate dental composite restorative materials classified according to filler particle size (microfill, small particle, hybrid) regarding fracture characteristics and susceptibility to stress corrosion. The composite materials were tested by cyclic fatigue in distilled water at 37°C.

FATIGUE UNDER CYCLIC COMPRESSIVE LOAD

Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 1984
For ultra‐high strength steels and aluminium alloys, a fatigue crack could initiate from a notch tip under cyclic compressive load. The threshold value for fatigue crack initiation under compressive load can be as great as four times that under tensile load. The crack grew at a decreasing rate until eventually it stopped growing altogether under cyclic

Cyclic Fatigue of Zirconia Ceramics

2002
Zirconia ceramics can achieve large increases in fracture toughness by controlling their phase transformation from tetragonal to monoclinic structure. The mechanical behavior under fluctuating loads is affected by such transformation toughening effects.
