Cyclic fatigue of composite airfoil structures

39th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference and Exhibit, 1998
Progressive damage and fracture of a composite airfoil structure subjected to cyclic loading is evaluated via computational simulation. A computer model is utilized for the assessment of structural response, progressive fracture, and defect/damage tolerance characteristics. Critical locations for damage initiation are identified.

Fatigue Crack Initiation Under Cyclic Torsion

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1986
Lin’s ratchet mechanism developed by Lin and his associates for fatigue crack initiation under tension and compression loading is here applied to fatigue under torsional loadings. Under the former loading, the most favorable slip system has a slip plane and a slip direction, both making 45 deg with the free surface; while under the latter the most ...

Cyclic contact fatigue of silicon nitride

Wear, 1999
During the last few years, ceramics have become interesting for use in various tribological applications, such as roller bearings, cam roller followers and valve engines. In hybrid ball bearings ceramic balls of silicon nitride are used together with steel races and steel cages.

Static, Cyclic, and Fatigue Property Correlations

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1971
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The results of an experimental and theoretical study relating to the stabilized cyclic state of materials and fatigue are presented. Using the power-law relationships credited to Manson and Coffin, excellent correlations are found to exist between virgin tensile properties and low-cycle fatigue failures for 2024-0 ...

Fatigue crack closure under cyclic tension

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1970
Abstract Results of an investigation are presented, which indicate that a fatigue crack, propagating under zero-to-tension loading may be partially or completely closed at zero load. An analysis of the stress distribution acting on the fracture surfaces shows that the local compressive stress maxima may exceed the yield stress of the material ...
