For structures that are subjected to cyclic loading above their elastic limits, the phenomena mentioned in Chap. 2 are important for their lifetime, in particular, the elastic-plastic strain ranges and the accumulated strains resulting from a possible ratcheting mechanism.

Cyclic Pile Load Testing—Loading System and Instrumentation
1979The scope, concepts, methodology, and details of a load application system and instrumentation for the successful operation of a series of cyclic pile load tests are described. The purposes of the pile tests on an instrumented H-pile were to evaluate the dynamic behavior of piles under cyclic loading conditions for seismic analyses and ...

An Electropneumatic Cyclic Loading System
Geotechnical Testing Journal, 1981Abstract This paper reviews some of the current systems in use for the application of cyclic loads to soil specimens. Their main features and principles of operation are described. A relatively low-cost electropneumatic system recently developed at the University of California at Berkeley is described in detail.

Consolidation Theory for Cyclic Loading
Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1978This article presents a one-dimensional consolidation theory for an inelastic normally consolidated clay layer subjected to cyclic loading. Analytic solutions predict the steady-state excess pore pressures and settlements that take place after a large number of cycles.
