Jointed rock samples with dip angles of 15°, 30°, 45°, and 60° (0° corresponds to the horizontal axis) are manufactured artificially, and a series of cyclic triaxial loading tests are performed at different frequencies (0.1, 1.0, 3.0, and 0.5 Hz) to ...

The stable state in cyclic triaxial testing on sand
Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, 1994Abstract The paper will describe a number of new characteristic phenomena of sand under cyclic loading, which have been discovered by triaxial cell testing, at the Soil Mechanics Laboratory at Aalborg University using test specimens with equal height and diameter.

Cyclic and Postcyclic Triaxial Testing of Ballast and Subballast
Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2016AbstractBallast and subballast are two layers of noncohesive, granular materials with different grain sizes filled in the track substructure to bear traffic loadings from train passages. The performance and sustainability of a track substructure depend on both of these two granular layers. This paper presents the experimental results of cyclic triaxial

Cyclic triaxial tests with continuous measurement of dissipated energy
International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1983Abstract This article describes conventional cyclic triaxial tests on a uniform sand in which the amount of energy dissipated by the specimen was continuously monitored. Energy monitoring was achieved by means of a digital circuit that automatically integrated the force-displacement signals as the test progressed.

Defining Y2 Yielding From Cyclic Triaxial Tests
Geotechnical Testing Journal, 2013Abstract This paper presents the yielding characteristics of overconsolidated Bootlegger Cove Formation (BCF) clays extracted from the Port of Anchorage construction site. Additionally, it extends the critical shear strain concept to define the point at which irrecoverable deformations begin (Y2 yielding) to the case of fully reversed ...

Cyclic loading triaxial testing of crushed rubble and lava
Bulletin of the International Association of Engineering Geology, 1984This paper describes a laboratory investigation into the suitability of crushed rubble as a substitute for conventional road base materials. The rubble investigated was a mixture of crushed concrete and crushed bricks, whilst lava from the Eifel was chosen as a reference material.

Study on damage evolution of intact and jointed marble subjected to cyclic true triaxial loading
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2019Rock masses in underground engineering, such as mining and deep tunnelling engineering, are often repeatedly loaded and unloaded. Here, a series of true triaxial multi-level single cyclic loading tests (σ1 > σ2 > σ3) were carried out on intact and ...
