The influence of membranes on tests of coarse-grained materials at low cell pressures
In triaxial tests on small specimens of sands/silts and clays, cell pressures are usually greater than 100 kPa and membranes are relatively thin (~0.3 mm).

A Bayesian Framework for the Calibration of Cyclic Triaxial Tests
This research presents the calibration of a constitutive model to replicate the cyclic performance of soils using a Bayesian framework. This study uses data from laboratory-conducted consolidated undrained isotropic cyclic triaxial tests and numerical tools to estimate optimal parameters by the application of Slice Sampling in a Bayesian analysis and ...

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

This work introduces a microsphere‐templated strategy to fabricate reprocessable PEDOT:PSS syntactic foams with tunable porosity, stable conductivity, and 3D printability. In situ PEDOT:PSS coatings create a conductive network that maintains electrical performance at high void fractions.

Behaviour of a loose silty sand under static and cyclic loading conditions [PDF]
In recent years, considerable progress have been made in the study of liquefaction and flow failures with the introduction of the notion of steady-state of deformation and “collapse” envelope.

According to post-seismic observations, spectacular examples of engineering failures can be ascribed to the occurrence of sand liquefaction, where a sandy soil stratum could undergo a transient loss of shear strength and even behave as a “liquid ...

A fully flexible ion‐gel‐gated graphene‐channel transistor driven by a triboelectric nanogenerator enables self‐powered tactile sensing and synaptic learning. Mimicking spike‐rate‐dependent plasticity, the device exhibits frequency‐selective potentiation and depression, supporting rate‐coded neuromorphic computation even under flex.

Rate-Dependent Response of Dense Sand in Cyclic Triaxial Tests
A number of cyclic triaxial tests were performed on Monterey No. 0/30 and Sacramento River Sand to investigate the effect that loading frequency has on the response of sands. The tests were performed on dense, air pluviated sand with loading frequencies of 0.1 and 1.5 Hz at varying confining pressures, cyclic shear stresses, and peak shear stresses ...
