The specific deviatoric energy to liquefaction in saturated cyclic triaxial tests

open access: yesProc. of the 7th International Conference on Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering, 2019
Within the European project LIQUEFACT, cyclic triaxial tests were carried out on an Italian sand, Pieve di Cento sand, taken from a field trial located in Emilia Romagna (Ita-ly), which was affected by liquefaction during the 2012 earthquake. The cyclic resistance curve of that sand was obtained in laboratory on reconstituted specimens with a low ...

Liquefaction of a coal ash investigated by monotonic and cyclic triaxial tests

open access: yesSoils and Foundations, 2019
The critical state soil mechanics (CSSM) has been, recently, introduced as the major analytical framework for synthesising liquefaction behaviours of granular soils.

A Superlubricated Magnetically Steerable Microcatheter with Integrated Optical and Fluidic Channels

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A magnetically steerable microcatheter with integrated optical and fluidic channels is developed for multifunctional navigation in tortuous anatomical environments. A surface‐grafted hydrogel coating enables low‐friction actuation. The device demonstrates stable light and fluid delivery during magnetic manipulation, offering a compact platform for ...

Impact of Cyclic Loading on Shakedown in Cohesive Soils—Simple Hysteresis Loop Model

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
The objective of this study is to characterize the permanent deformations and to present a mathematical model that enables the prediction of permanent strain during cyclic loading. First, laboratory cyclic triaxial tests are conducted on sandy silty clay

Light‑Driven Propulsion of Graphene Aerogels in Microgravity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ultralight graphene aerogels convert laser light into thrust. Parabolic‐flight experiments directly compare their motion in microgravity and at 1 g, revealing order‐of‐magnitude enhancements in distance, velocity, and transient thrust when weight and friction are removed (∼50 times enhancement).

The Effect of Failure Criteria on Liquefaction and Pore Pressure Prediction in Non-Plastic Soils

open access: yesGeotechnics
Since the 1960s, cyclic triaxial tests have been utilized to assess the liquefaction susceptibility of cohesionless soils. While standardized procedures exist for conducting cyclic triaxial tests, there remains no universally accepted criterion for ...

Dynamic Behaviours of a Single Soft Rock-Socketed Shaft Subjected to Axial Cyclic Loading

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2016
The soft rock was simulated by cement, plaster, sand, water, and concrete hardening accelerator in this paper. Meanwhile, uniaxial compressive strength tests and triaxial compression tests were conducted to study the mechanical properties of simulated ...

A new slurry-based method of preparation of specimens of sand containing fines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A new method of specimen reconstitution is presented that is appropriate for element testing of sands containing either plastic or nonplastic fines. The method allows reconstitution of homogeneous, saturated specimens of sands containing fines whose ...
