A Multifunctional Bioactive Nanoscale Coating Deposited by Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Polymerization of Peppermint Essential Oil

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 17, 20 March 2026.
Atmospheric plasma polymerization transforms peppermint essential oil into ultrathin, substrate‐independent bioactive coatings with antioxidant, contact‐active antibacterial, and immunomodulatory functions. The coating disrupts Gram‐negative pathogens, potentiates prophylactic antibiotics, suppresses pro‐inflammatory signaling, and promotes M2 ...

Electrocatalytic Reduction and Oxidation Conversion of Plant Biomass

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2026.
This review therefore establishes a unified “compound–catalyst–conversion” paradigm, systematically categorizing and analyzing electrocatalytic oxidation and reduction pathways for the three major classes of plant‐derived components—aromatics, aliphatics, and terpenoids—to provide a clear navigational map for the field.

Recent Advances in Aerogel Materials for Adsorptive Removal and Photocatalysis of VOCs in Air

open access: yesIndoor Air, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Indoor air quality (IAQ) has become a critical global concern due to the high levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from various indoor sources, posing significant health risks. Adsorption and photocatalytic oxidation are established routes for VOC removal; however, their practical performance in powder form is limited by high pressure ...

Chemical Composition and Intestinal Protective Effects of Essential Oil From Chimonanthus grammatus by Suppressing the ROS/Ca2+‐Mediated Mitochondrial Pathway

open access: yesJournal of Food Biochemistry, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
In this work, 21 compounds in Chimonanthus grammatus essential oil (named CGO) were identified by GC‐MS. Subsequently, CGO was demonstrated to possess antioxidant activities, as evidenced by DPPH radical, hydroxyl radical, and ABTS radical scavenging assays.

Integrative Toxicology Profiling of Thuja sutchuenensis Essential Oil: From LD50 Safety Assessment to Hepatic Apoptosis and Gut Microbiota Modulation

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 12, December 2025.
This study provides the first experimental evidence of Thuja sutchuenensis essential oil (TEO) toxicity, with an oral LD50 of ~3800 mg/kg in mice. Sub‐LD50 doses cause focal hepatic necrosis via apoptosis/oxidative stress–related pathways without systemic inflammation or renal injury.

Pseudo‐Natural Products Inspired by Aspidospermidine‐, Strychnos‐, and Koumine Monoterpene Indole Alkaloids Reveal Pyrimidine Biosynthesis Inhibitors

open access: yesHelvetica Chimica Acta, Volume 108, Issue 12, December 2025.
Chemical evolution of alkaloids inspired the synthesis of a monoterpene alkaloid‐inspired pseudo‐natural product compound collection and revealed a novel de novo pyrimidine biosynthesis inhibitor chemotype. ABSTRACT In pseudo‐natural product (PNP) design, natural product fragments are combined in arrangements not found in nature to afford novel ...
