Cyclometalation Reactions

Angewandte Chemie International Edition in English, 1977
AbstractReactions of transition metal complexes in which an organic ligand undergoes intramolecular metalation with formation of a metal‐carbon σ bond are termed cyclometalation reactions. This article provides a general summary of our knowledge of these reactions, and discusses them in terms of their scope, mechanisms, and utility in organic synthesis,

Cyclometallation across metal-carbon bonds; exo-metallated metallacyclopentadiene synthesis.

Dalton Transactions
The carbido complex [Rh2(μ-C)Cl2(μ-dppm)2] reacts with triphenyl cyclopropenium hexafluorophosphate to afford the exo-metallated metallacyclopentadiene salt [Rh2(μ-C4Ph3)Cl2(μ-dppm)2]PF6via formal insertion of a metal-carbon multiple bond into the ...

Cyclometallated nitrogen heterocycles

Journal of Organometallic Chemistry, 2003
The cyclometallation of four different classes of nitrogen heterocycle (pyridazine, tetrazines, pyrazines and pyrimidines) by palladium and platinum has been studied. Pyridazines readily form singly and doubly cyclometallated compounds, whilst pyrazines only metallate once.

Cyclometalated Ruthenium Chloro and Nitrosyl Complexes

Inorganic Chemistry, 2002
The novel cyclometalated Ru(III) complex, [Ru(eta(2)-phpy)(trpy)Cl][PF(6)].toluene 1, and the [Ru-NO](6) complex, [Ru(eta(2)-phpy)(trpy)NO][PF(6)](2) 2, where trpy is 2,2': 6',2''-terpyridine and phpy is 2-phenylpyridine, have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, (1)H NMR, and electronic absorption spectroscopies, cyclic ...

Peripherally cyclometalated iridium complexes of dipyridylporphyrin

Dalton Transactions, 2011
Two types of novel iridium pincer complexes bearing a porphyrin backbone were synthesized and characterized from dipyridylporphyrin. One of the complexes has a Lewis acidic site on the iridium center in the mer-coordination mode. The other complex takes the fac-coordination, which is rarely observed in benzene-based pincer complexes.

Rollover Cyclometalation with 2-(2′-Pyridyl)quinoline

Inorganic Chemistry, 2013
Rollover cyclometalation of 2-(2'-pyridyl)quinoline, L, allowed the synthesis of the family of complexes [Pt(L-H)(X)(L')] and [Pt(L*)(X)(L')][BF4] (X = Me, Cl; L' = neutral ligand), the former being the first examples of Pt(II) rollover complexes derived from the ligand L. The ligand L* is a C,N cyclometalated, N-protonated isomer of L, and can also be

Consecutive Cyclometalation by Platinum(II)

Organometallics, 1996
The mechanism of the selective formation of the new benzylic mono- and bicyclometalated platinum(II) complexes 2a,b and 3b has been studied. Monitoring the initial sp3 C−H activation of the ligand DIPPIDH (α2-(diisopropylphosphino)isodurene; 1) and (1,5-cyclooctadiene)dimethylplatinum(II) ((COD)PtMe2) at room temperature by 31P{1H} NMR reveals that ...

Agostic bonds in cyclometalation

Journal of Organometallic Chemistry, 2011
Abstract Cyclometalation reactions proceed very easily with one step reaction between metal compounds and substrates having a heteroatom such as O, S, N, P and As. However, under mild reaction conditions, many agostic compounds which are intermediates in these cyclometalation reactions, can be isolated.

Advances in photoconductive and photorefractive cyclometalated complexes development

SPIE Proceedings, 2004
We present results on the photorefractive performance of cyclometalated complexes in which a central metal atom (Pd or Pt) coordinates two different molecular sub-units in a single species. Depending on the details of their structure, these molecules aggregate in crystals, glasses or liquid crystalline phases.
