Myoclonic seizure due to cyclopentolate eye drop in a preterm infant

open access: yesThe Turkish Journal of Pediatrics, 2012
Cyclopentolate is widely used in ophthalmology for its intense mydriatic and cycloplegic activity. Systemic side effects have been described in both adults and children.

Long‐term test and retest reliability of clinical vergence testing

open access: yesOphthalmic and Physiological Optics, Volume 45, Issue 7, Page 1630-1641, November 2025.
Abstract Purpose To establish long‐term reliability measures for vergence testing in a control population of adolescents. Methods Healthy participants between 12 and 17.5 years with normal binocular vision were recruited from 10 clinical sites. Cover test, near point of convergence (NPC), positive and negative fusional vergences, vergence facility (12∆

Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments (DIMS) spectacle lenses in UK children: Outcomes from a 2‐year multi‐site interventional trial

open access: yesOphthalmic and Physiological Optics, Volume 45, Issue 7, Page 1965-1980, November 2025.
Abstract Introduction Myopia is a growing public health concern with long‐term risks for visual impairment. While Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments (DIMS) spectacle lenses have proven efficacy in Chinese children, evidence from Western populations remains limited.

Optimal dosage of cyclopentolate 1% for cycloplegic refraction in hypermetropes with brown irides

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2011
To find the optimal dosage of cyclopentolate 1% for cycloplegic refraction in hypermetropes with brown irides, we investigated the difference in cycloplegic auto-refractions obtained after one, two, and three instillations in the same patient.

Do all children need a cycloplegic refraction? A comparison of Mohindra's versus cycloplegic refraction

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2020
Purpose: In 1–12 years old children, we assessed correlation, regression, and agreement between spherical equivalents (SE) obtained on Mohindra's near retinoscopy (MNR) and the post cycloplegic refraction (PCRef), performed 72 h after a cycloplegic ...

Superoxide Activates Ferroptosis via the Haber‐Weiss Reaction and Enhances Age‐Related Macular Degeneration

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 10, October 2025.
Superoxide activates ferroptosis through the Haber‐Weiss reaction and contributes to the development of age‐related macular degeneration. MnSOD‐depleted RPE cells are susceptible to blue light‐induced ferroptosis. MnSOD deficiency promotes Hsp70‐driven ubiquitin‐mediated degradation of GPX4.

Tracking visual outcomes – Follow‐up on patients born preterm with childhood‐onset visual impairment

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, Volume 103, Issue 6, Page 634-644, September 2025.
Abstract Purpose Preterm birth is associated with a risk of ocular complications. The primary aim of the study was to evaluate the main cause of visual impairment (VI) in a cohort of preterm born patients who had childhood‐onset VI. The association between health‐related quality of life (HRQoL) and age, cause—and severity of VI and impairment type was ...
