Cycloplegic Provocative Testing

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1969
The effect of cycloplegia on intraocular pressure was studied in a series of angle-closure glaucoma patients who had undergone peripheral iridectomies. Twenty percent of these patients had intraocular pressure elevations of at least 6 mm Hg though the angles remained unequivocally open.

Cycloplegic Autorefraction as a Substitute for Cycloplegic Retinoscopy in the Pediatric Population

Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus, 2022
Purpose: To evaluate whether cycloplegic autorefraction can provide similar results as cycloplegic retinoscopy, allowing more comprehensive ophthalmologists to be comfortable in managing pediatric refractive error and refractive amblyopia.

COMPARISON OF CYCLOPLEGIC AND NON-CYCLOPLEGIC REFRACTIONS OF ESKIMOS

Optometry and Vision Science, 1971
A cycloplegic and non-cycloplegic refraction was obtained on 946 eyes of 213 male subjects and 291 female Eskimos between 6 and 88 years old. When the results obtained are compared with those obtained on white subjects by Bannon, good agreement is found between the two studies in the case of the hypermetropic subjects but relatively poor agreement is ...

Tropicamide: Comparative Cycloplegic Effects

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1961
Tropicamide* (Mydriacyl) is the cycloplegic agent most recently introduced into this country. This, together with cyclopentolate hydrochloride † (Cyclogyl) and homatropine, provides us with 3 so-called short acting cycloplegic drugs for refraction. Inasmuch as these preparations are all parasympatholytic drugs and pharmacologically related, it was ...

Cycloplegic refraction 1

Optician, 2022
Sosena Tang reviews the mechanisms behind accommodation and how it affects refraction, the availability of cycloplegic drugs for optometrists, and how and when to use them. Case examples of post-cycloplegic prescribing are also presented.

Higher Order Ocular Aberrations After Cycloplegic and Non-cycloplegic Pupil Dilation

Journal of Refractive Surgery, 2003
ABSTRACT PURPOSE: Clinical aberrometry is commonly undertaken with the use of mydriatic agents, however there is no literature available on whether aberrometry results obtained under cycloplegia differ from those obtained without cycloplegia.

The Pharmacology of Cycloplegics

Optometry and Vision Science, 1978
A brief review of the pharmacological action of cycloplegic drugs is followed by a specification of the doses and actions of five commonly used cycloplegics. Some criterion for selecting a cycloplegic are presented.
