On the Causes and Effects of Roller Skewing in Cylindrical Roller Bearings

Tribology Transactions, 1998
Cylindrical roller bearings which support thrust and/or moment loading in addition to predominant radial loading have flanges on both the inner and outer rings to accommodate the thrust loading carried by the rollers. The roller thrust loading causes roller tilting and friction moments about the rotating axis perpendicular to both the bearing and ...

On the Lubricating Mechanism of Roller Skew in Cylindrical Roller Bearings

Tribology Transactions, 2013
Skewing is the motion of a roller as it turns about an axis normal to the roller–race interface in cylindrical roller bearings. With a special coordinate transformation technique, complete numerical solutions for the finite line elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) contact formed between a roller and races were obtained to investigate the lubricating ...

An Experimental Investigation of Cylindrical Roller Bearings Having Annular Rollers

open access: yesJournal of Lubrication Technology, 1976
This study deals with an experimental investigation of a cylindrical roller bearing having annular rollers. Comparisons are made with a solid roller bearing having the same configuration and dimensions. Radial deformations and load distribution between rollers are measured under static load and compared with numerical solutions.

Measurement of Roller Speed in a Cylindrical Roller Bearing Using a Laser Anemometer

open access: yesJournal of Lubrication Technology, 1978
A technique for measuring roller speeds in cylindrical roller bearings using a modified laser anemometer has been developed. The technique described does not require any mechanical interference with the roller and cage geometries, and is suitable for high speed testing.

Effect of Varying the Number of Rollers on Dynamics of a Cylindrical Roller Bearing

Volume 8: 26th Conference on Mechanical Vibration and Noise, 2014
In present paper, nonlinear dynamic model has been developed for cylindrical roller bearings. The Hertzian contact theory is used to derive a two degree of freedom model which considers nonlinearity due to clearance. The nonlinear dynamic behaviour of cylindrical roller bearing has been studied with varying number of rollers supporting load.

Geometry design and machining of roller gear cams with cylindrical rollers

Mechanism and Machine Theory, 1994
Abstract This paper derives equations for the surface geometry of roller gear cams with cylindrical rollers based on coordinate transformation, differential geometry, and theory of conjugate surfaces. Mathematical expressions for the principal curvatures and directions and the pressure angles are also presented.
