Stochastic Entanglement of Deterministic Origami Tentacles For Robust Robotic Grasping

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces an origami tentacle gripper to robustly grasp objects‐in air, underwater, and even in orbital space‐by exploiting a synergy between local, deterministic deformation programming and global, stochastic entanglements. A single origami tentacle can be designed to coil with a simple tendon pull.

Vibration Analysis of Double-Row Cylindrical Roller Bearing with Misalignment of Inner Race [PDF]

open access: yes
Improper installation and shaft bending will lead to misalignment of the bearing inner raceway, so it is of great significance to describe the dynamic behaviors realistically.

EndoTac: An Endoscopic Camera‐Based Tactile Sensor with High Sensitivity for Minimally Invasive Surgery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
EndoTac presents a trocar‐compatible endoscopic vision‐based tactile sensor that uses a convex mirror to enlarge side‐facing tactile coverage during minimally invasive vessel palpation. Distorted tactile images are unwarped and processed by a learning model to estimate vascular deformation, enabling sensitive, spatially distributed tactile perception ...

A method to predict the radial runout of outer ring in cylindrical roller bearings

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2017
For the rotary motion of a rolling bearing implemented by bearing components under geometric constraints, the rotational accuracy of assembled bearing should also be the result of interaction among geometric errors of bearing components. Therefore, it is

Chiral Morphing of Liquid Crystal Polymer Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This paper reviews how macroscopic chirality spontaneously arises from liquid crystal polymer materials. It describes how alignment is utilized to create the mechanical anisotropy, geometric misorientation and asymmetry that leads to chiral shape morphing, how shape selection between helicoids and helices arises, the techniques used to prepare these ...

3D Printed Meter‐Scale Soft Origami Robots Capable of Load‐Bearing Actuation Via Crease Stiffness Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Origami has inspired numerous soft deployable mechanisms for safe human‐robot interaction, while its intrinsic kinematic instability at arbitrary configurations limited their practical robotic application. This work presents a 3D printed meter‐scale origami robotic actuator capable of load‐bearing deformation through creaseline stiffness modulation.
