Health beneficial and pharmacological properties of p-cymene

Food and Chemical Toxicology, 2021
p-cymene also known as p-cymol or p-isopropyltoluene is an alkyl-substituted aromatic compound naturally occurring in essential oils (EOs) of various aromatic plants, including the genus of Artemisia, Protium, Origanum, and Thymus. It is related to the family of terpenes, especially monocyclic monoterpenes.

p-Cymene metabolism in rats and guinea-pigs

Xenobiotica, 1983
The metabolism of p-cymene was studied in rats and guinea-pigs. Following intragastric or inhalation dosage (100 mg/kg) urinary metabolite excretion was nearly complete within 48 h, amounting to 60-80% dose. The inhalation experiments gave the lowest values. 18 urinary metabolites were detected and identified.

Microbial transformation of p-cymene

2016
More than 30 bacteria, fungi and yeast were evaluated for the biotransformation ability of p-cymene to obtain new metabolites. In the course of 14 days microbial biotransformation period, 16 different metabolites were detected by TLC and GC/MS methods.
